1. United States of America
2. China
3. United Knigdom
4. Russia
5. Germany
6. India
7. Israel
8. Pakistan
9. Turkey
10. France
*France used to be #5 or 6, but they just lost all their grit.
All of these accept for Turkey and Brazil and Germany have nuclear weapons.
USA: We have the single largest military spending in the world. Our technology is so advanced, many of the countries above have sent spies who have aggressively tried to get those secrets even before theyre ready. We have the 2nd amount of nukes and the largest amount of tactical nukes most of these are on board nuclear submarines which are undetectable and we also have the largest amount of those too. Our military is the most sophisticated, and since it is completely volunteer, the loyalty is unbelievable. We have the largest navy, airforce, submarine fleet, and special forces and the 2nd largest army, after China. The only setback to our
military is that its not fuel effecient.
China: China is in my eyes 2nd because they have a firm control of their people, not that its a good thing. They also are getting some advanced technology. Their airforce is very impressive, but the hallmark is the army. It's huge, nearly twice the size of America's. But they also have nukes as well as a few nuke submarines. Their technology isnt nearly as advanced as ours though.
United Kingdom is probably like the miniature USA, accept everything is about 1/2 the size of America's. They have submarines, aircraft carriers, sophisticated technology, and very good special forces. The only draw back is the British public doesnt like to take advantage of their military might.
Russia: ranks #3 because it has only inherited the USSRs military accept to a lesser degree. The Russian army isnt nearly as big, and not nearly as advanced as the former USSR. Also some drawbacks are that Russia has problems on the homefront. Accept Israel, no other nation in the top 10 has that. And the Russian army isnt that loyal either. But the hallmark of the Russian military is the airforce. The airforce is one of the biggest in the world, one of the most advanced.
They also have the climate with them. No nation has ever successfully invaded Russia.
Germany: It ranks #5 because it has a very technologically advanced army and airforce. Although it isnt a nuclear power,
it has very good artillery, weapons, and tactics. The numbers are also very impressive. But the best thing about it is the submarine fleet. It can devastate a navy with its fleet.
India: Comes in snug at #6 because of 2 main things, numbers and nuclear weapons. Although it has a sophisticated airforce, that were the technological advances ends. The army has mainly older stuff, and the navy is very small, and the special forces nor the commanders have proven themselves in battle. But it does have numbers and geography on its side. The army is huge, and the north of India would be suicidal to cross because of the Himalayas. So that would force a sea attack,or a western attack, which would allow them to heavily defend those places.
Israel: #7 on the list for a variety of reasons. The first thing is the advanced technology, Israel is like the baby USA, the Army, Airforce, and Navy are all advanced. It even has nuclear weapons. The special forces are world reknown, and commanders have proven themsleves many times in battle.
But there is just one thing which outs it at #7, its size. The Iraeli military has only about 560,000 people, most of them reserves.
Pakistan: #8 on the countdown because of some major reasons. The first is the nuclear capabilties, Pakistan has a large nuclear arsenal. The numbers are impressive as well. The Pakistani Army has about 650,00 active members, not including reserves, which puts the number higher. But the major draw back is that it lacks the advanced technology that many other countries have.
Turkey: #9 because the military has reached that magical mark of 1,000,000. The army, navy, and special forces are very advanced, mainly becuase its become and ally with USA. But a main reason is the loyalty, the loyalty is incredible.
France: Comes in #10 because of 2 major reasons: Nukes and special forces. The special forces are world reknown "The French Foriegn Legion" is comparable to the "Navy S.E.A.L.s". It's army, navy, and airforce are also very advanced, inpart because of an alliance with NATO.
However, recently it seems that France has lost the grit to handle any type of major conflict.
*Note: globalfirepower.com doesnt include any tpye of loyalty or militarization or any consideration for being battle hardened. It just has capabilties, no real life logistics.
How on earth would Spain beat Pakistan? Pakistan has nukes and battle hardened troops, Spain doesn't.
AND HOW ON EARTH WOULD SWEDEN BEAT ISRAEL?
Sweden has clearly playedthe role of a neutral, and their troops havent proven themselves in battle. Sweden doesnt even have nukes! The Israeli Airforce would tear the Swede's to shreads!
I dont think that the site has the "over all" aspects.

Depends on what you mean by "best" army. If by expenditure..
United States, United Kingdom, France, Japan, China, Germany, Russia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and India in that order.
If you mean as in an estimate of military power, of course the numbers would change.
The United States spends more than half of the world budget on military expenditures. The UK and France are the strongest armies in Europe, with high expenditures and nuclear armaments. Israel, Egypt, South Korea, and North Korea are all in tense areas with strong military budgets and preparation for outright war. Israel also has nuclear armaments, as does North Korea.
Russia's armed forces have waned since the days of the Soviet Union, although they are likely still formidible. China's armed forces are likely the second strongest in the world due to nuclear armaments, decent technology, and raw manpower. Japan is constitutionally limited against projecting power offensively, but should that limitation be removed and Japan's military expenditure approach even that of other relatively pacifistic nations, their military would likely be third only next to China and the US.
Nuclear power aside, the top ten is a difficult list to make. However, the United States and China are unquestionably #1 and #2, the UK and France are likely up there, and both North and South Korea are very strong, although out of necessity rather than choice.
Edit- john w, Germany does not have nuclear weapons. The rest you said do are known nuclear powers though, yes.
Also, my apologies, I did overlook Pakistan and India, although they are both stuck in a situation similar to South and North Korea. They have strong armies, but in truth, little power projection due to adversarial conflict.
Final edit- I examined the Global Fire Power website. A lot of it makes sense, but the lack of consideration to equipment, experience, and nuclear technology can be problematic. Also, any list that places Canada (which is generally pacifistic) over North Korea (which is as firmly militaristic as a nation can possibly get, and likely has a military force of similar size due to much higher enlistment/conscription rate) loses a lot of credibility in my mind.
