I suffered depression in the past and it's like alcoholism, you're never totally out of it, but learn to control it. My daughter has said she wants to die for the past week. I wouldn't think she's trying to manipulate me, but don't know what to do. Dad is 2hrs away and she sees him saldomly but can't do nothing about that. Maybe she needs vitamins? Don't have medical insurance. I've scold her before for telling me this when she's lost a privilige due to misconduct, but I've also tried to talk to her about good things in life and tried to keep that away from her mind. How to pinpoint if it's manipulation or real problem?

Talk to her, be very patient, and try not to scold her too much. This is a very serious issue. There is a chance she is doing it to simply get your attention. She may realize that you listen to her more, pay more attention to her when she says that she wants to die. spend more time with her and if she claims she still wants to die or her actions become more problematic, I would strongly urge you to take her to a counselor (or even a school counselor. They are free and will hellp a lot). I don't think vitamins will be a tremendous help in this area right now.

DO NOT SCOLD a child who says she wants to die. Since when is stating a fact something to punish her for? Sit down with her and talk to her. Ask her why she is saying this and what she thinks might help. Granted she is only 7 but she can certainly give you a clue as to what she is thinking when she says these things if you talk to her about it. Once you find out what is going on in her mind that makes her say this you can decide what to do about it. If she is seriously meaning she wants to commit suicide then by all means take her for medical help. If she is just talking about being unhappy then find out why she feels unhappy and try to correct that.

I used to wish all kinds of terrible things on myself and my family when I was that young... it just meant that I didn't know how do deal with my own misery (for whatever reason) and behaved like a child, imagine that. If she hurts herself, then worry.

The point is are you willing to take the chance if she is serious or not. Please seek counseling. Better to play it safe I would think. Good luck and you have my prayers.
