I just had a cortisone injection today in my hip joint. I am only 25yrs old and have had a serious of hip surgeries. Turns out I could have arthritis already at my age. Has anyone had a cortisone injection in the hip to help with arhritis? Did it work? How long after the injection did it take to get pain relief? And how long did the shot last for? A few weeks? Months? Any help would truly be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Not the hip, but in my shoulder. The relief was almost immediate and 8 years out it has never been as bad again for either pain or range of motion. The old wives' tale is true though about being able to tell when the weather will change.

My answer is the opposite of the previous respondant. I got injections in both hips, felt the benefits within 24 hours but it only lasted a couple weeks. At $20 per hip for the shot, I decided it was too rich for 2 weeks' worth of mobility.

I guess you'll have to experience it for yourself and make your own decision.
