Don't listen to the nay sayers! The country need good home breeders particularly of pure bred dogs if we don't have any home breeders than all dogs would be bred in huge commercial facilities. Soon there would be no dogs because Peta would attack them the same way they did fur farmers. So we NEED good home breeders.

There are some great sites and books that can explain all of this to you. But briefly dogs come into season for the first time anywhere between 6 months and up to 2 years (for some larger dog that may have missed a season) It is not unusual for a female to have her first season between 9 and 15 months of age even in some medium sized breeds.Breeding back to back has been frowned upon for years a new study tried to reverse that so you should red the study and follow your gut. You know the condition of you dog better than anyone with a pre made decision that is typing eons away from your dog (and who has never seen it/them).

Some dogs come into season every 6 months, others can be every 10 or even 13, again it depends on the line, the breed, and the health of the dog. But lines and breed have a great deal to do with seasons. So does diet and over vaccination, or over medication something we are always learning about and changing protocols to reduce the amount of chemicals we put into the system of breeding dogs.

Most dogs come into season every 6 -8 months depends on the dog all dogs are different.
I would wait till she has had 2 heats or at least 2 yrs of age before breeding her.A real good website is

Dogs go into heat twice a year. If you do decide to breed your dogs just make sure that you vet finds them to be in good health for breeding and its not good to breed your dog on their first heat cause the dog is still to young. At the vet I worked at we had a whole packet of information on breeding of puppies your vet prolly has the same. Good Luck

Yes, do not even consider breeding your dogs unless and until you educate yourself about breeding. You don't even know how often dogs are in heat? How are you going to know how to assist the breeding? Look after a pregnant bit ch? Help her with whelping? Look after a newborn litter?

There's more than enough unwanted dogs bred by back yard breeders being killed in shelters every day - you don't need to add to them!

Much healthier for dogs to be spayed/neutered, anyway.

Dogs come in heat about twice a year, every six months. But don't start "breeding your dogs" just because you think you should. There are plenty of dogs already out there and the animal rescues are full of them. Get your dogs spayed or neutered.

The gerneral rule of thumb is every 6 month's...But evry fe. & sometime's every heat cycle is different..
It's most importane to figure out when she's ouvilating, most good expierenced stud's will know when she's "ready"..
Ususlly she will become more receptive to the male & "stand" (she'll stand & let him mount her)for him she may also "Flag" her tail (move it off to the side, even is she is a screw docked tail breed)..
Be ready for the tie if their both first timers it can get a bit wild...
I would also suggest you being their for every breeding, Don't just let them run together & do it on their own...
Complication's can happen & it's just a very good ides to be their to supervise...
Best Of Luck

I don't know exactly how often, but I have read if the female is around the male a lot it will cause her to go into heat. Sorry I'm not much help. Good luck!

canines warmth cycles can very last 21-30 (or more beneficial days, some human beings are effortless) and ensue each seven to 365 days. cats can bypass year round. canines and tom cat gestation sessions are between 60-sixty 5 days. ---> dogs may have a muddle (if she receives pregnant each warmth cycle) one to 2 circumstances a year. Cats may have litters continually in the journey that they breed effectively each warmth cycle
