I know the Navy fairly well as I, too, plan to go in as an officer. In my case it would be in the MSC, not as a line officer. I think Jews would probably be better off in the Army or Air Force, because the Navy has a tradition of harrassment, and Jews are a favorite target. About 12 years ago, the Chief of Naval Operations was harrassed and blackmailed, probably because he was a Jew, and ultimately committed suicide. It was a huge story. President Clinton walked out of an important meeting to deal with it as soon as an aide whispered it into his ear. I'm in Navy ROTC, and there is already a lot of harrassment coming my way, but it doesn't bother me. Some people though, just can't take it. The suicide rate for the army and air force is 4 times higher than in the civilian population, and in the navy, it's 4 times that! As far as I'm concerned, welcome aboard my fellow officer. but if you think you'll buckle under the harrassment, you should prolly look elsewhere. best wishes!

The military, at least the Navy I know for sure, respects your religious rights, but duty will come first. If it does not halt business so to speak they are fine with things. If the holiday you are wishing to observe requires that you miss work you may need to ask for special liberty which is a day off that is not charged against your leave balance or you may need to take a day of leave. It all depends on your chain of command and how they feel about the number of days and what the operational commitments are for the time you are requesting off. The Navy doesn't hate people that practice their religion, you just need to know that sometime you may not get to take the day to observe your faith. It is a case by case thing, but I wouldn't let that keep you from joining the Navy. We do have Rabbi's all over the Navy so you won't be the only one out there.

The military is anon denominational instituion. Everybody is welcome. Well, at least in the U.S. Don't know about other countries. U.S. military is made up of volunteers. No drafting here. So, the question is whether the person can handle the responsabilities of being in the military. Some of these responsabilities may be to kill or send someone else to kill another human being. If the person in question cannot handle this then they should not join.
In case of a draft then a person has the oportunity to prove that killing goes against their values. his however is not an easy task. Just saying it isn't good enough. Anyways, its an option.
Anyways, a persons religion in the military plays no role. There are many chaplins to deal with each individual soldiers, navy men or whomever's needs.

J for J are christians & some may well be Jews yet so a procedures as i'm able to confirm from the placement I went to they're a church & meet on Sunday besides as Saturday at circumstances, they seem to do Passover & Shavuot besides as yuletide & Ishtar. I by no skill observed any kippahs or tallit nor any warning signs of kosher food at conferences. I in basic terms attended three times & desperate that they have got been very christian of their orientation with a touch Hebrew thrown in & christian procedures of worshipping. As i replaced into attempting to get far off from that i stumbled on a Messianic group that stated Sabbath & each and all the Feasts of YHVH in Lev 23. some chosen to positioned on Kippahs & tallit, all of them ate Kosher food & offered it on the Jewish shops & have been certainly no longer doing something interior the christian way which i stumbled on very fresh. I discovered plenty approximately Torah there & they have been genuine people who have been a mix of Messianic Jews & Messianic Believers. All gazing Torah as perfect they understood the word. Acts 15:12-21 So i might say that J4J is commonly christian & Messianic Jews who do no longer attend there seem greater observant of Torah. of direction there are a number of categories of communities, yet genuine Messianic Jews recognize the version between Torah Observance & christianity. regrettably many Jews have offered into J4J & at the instant are christianized to their very very own detriment.

I imagine the same as any other officer. The navy will not make special accommodations for this faith. I am sure a yamulke could fit under the navy head gear.

There are people of all different faiths in military service. As such, there are Chaplains of every faith for whatever needs you may have during your military career. Also, have you considered being a Chaplain yourself? They are fully commissioned officers and are in great demand.

same way a Devout Catholic would fit in. you will have to understand that there WILL be times where you will be unable to observe properly.. dietary requirements as well as religious service.
