After the baby is born sometime the hospital will take foot prints of the baby. If i had a child i would get my baby foot prints as a tattoo on my ankle or my back with his name on the bottom of the prints or under the foot prints in blue. that would be very cute.

Wow. You had a lot of dumb people reply to this. Thumbs down to all of them.
It's a matter of personal preference, really. Do you want something big? Something small? Something in a spot that won't be seen by everyone? Something that represents him as a baby? Something that represents your love for him? What?
A tattoo with meaning is just that, something you put a lot of thought into, something special to you... A pacifier or bottle with his initials might seem like an okay idea, but does it mean a whole lot? I'd wait until you actually have him, and I'd think about it for a while longer.

I assume you would like to be able to show it off so i would say your arm, ankle, calf, etc... anywhere easily viewable..
since its going to be a boy i would get in colors like blues greens and black.
The baby bottle is a very cute idea, you can also incorporate his actual birthdate, what his sign will be, time of his birth, or you can even wait until you get his newborn pics done and then go and get his pic tattooed on your arm or wherever.
I say go talk to a good artist in your area with your ideas and see if he/she can come up with something great for you.
Good Luck and congrats on your lil boy.

One of the regulars got a small profile picture of her daughter on her lower back, roughly where her baby's head was during her pregnancy. I rather like that idea.
I prefer B&W shading for something like this, but it's your call. I'd say find an artist and talk to them about what you'd like. Good artists are going to need to be booked a bit ahead of time anyhow. You'll want to wait until after your son is born, although I don't how much longer after that you need/want to wait.
Oh, and congratulations! Both of my parents (and me) were born in June. It's a good month for that. :)

I got my son's name tattooed on my arm. Its in a pretty cursive with his birthday in italics under it. He's 4 now, and he loves the fact that I have his name on me. Plus, its helped him learn to spell it easier since its right there. I used to point to each letter when he was smaller and spell it out. I am sorry that people are being so rude about your question. I think you should just go with what feels right when he's born though, thats what I did.

since you're for it, I'd propose something very special, but unusual as well; i am Greek and to us, the lettre theta has always had the meaning of power and wisdom!
it is an o with a dash in its middle. as i am in Denmark now i don't have the Greek keyboard handy, but imagine an o and a dash in the middle; you may ask someone about it! make it gold-yellow above your tammy.-
ciao...john-john.-

A beautiful red rose with a small picture of your son's face in the middle of the petals, a Cherub of a little boy, or a butterfly.

geeez all these answers are mean.... Congratulations on your upcoming child. My 2 little girls are Irish on their Dad's side, so I got a shamrock with celtic scroll on either side. I like it. So maybe something to do with your heraldry and your son's name on the shoulder or back perhaps.

Put his name in something like a baby bottle or a heart or just put his name somewhere.
