I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.
It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.
Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!

15-20 is a great goal.
2 pounds a week for 7= 14
or
3 pounds a week for 7= 21
Going to fast will eventually set someone up for failure because they cannot keep it up. Keep in mind that some of the weight could also be replaced by muscle, which takes up less space than the fat.

Erm, i'll give you some facts & you try work it out yourself. Right, your body is made up of 70% water! Any crash diet you go on or other super fast weight loss method, the weight you lose will be water only. Water doessn't stay off your body it can all be put back on in days. If you are to go on a successful diet where you lose weight & keep it off, then you need to aim to lose fat. You cannot possibly lose a vast amount of weight super fast unless it is just water, even if you starve yourself! There are 3500 calories to a pound of fat. 14 pounds to a stone. You need to be losing more calories per day then you are intaking in order to lose fat. I think a more realistic goal is 2-3 pounds per week.

I started Weight Watchers in Mid January, in the beginning I was at 226 pounds (I am 6' tall). I slowly adjusted to the plan and started exercising just 3 weeks ago. As of last thursday (9 weeks), I weighed in at 210 pounds.
She could lose the 15-20 pounds in a healthy way in 7 weeks as long as she sticks to it completely and exercises. Ask her to make smaller goals to get to her 30 pounds, 5 pound increments.
Ask her to measure herself as well. I just did my measurements a week and a half ago and then did them today out of curiousity and have lost 6" since then! It makes a big difference and boosts your confidence and motivation to see that difference if the scale isn't moving.
Good Luck!

she can't go on a crash diet cuz then the weight will never stay off. go on a healthy diet, and exercise. like you can maybe jog and run with her, go swimming, whatever you guys like. its always better when a friend exercises with a friend, everything seems more fun. don't push her too hard, but don't let her slide too often, especially if she wants to lose that much weight in such a short perios of time.
she should just eat right, and the weight will come off. just the smallest number of pounds lost are noticed and praised. and no matter how many pounds she loses, she'll feel much healthier. so just tell her the weight will come off all in good time, just diet and exercise. wish her luck for me! =)

the best thing that your friend can do is to be realistic, tell her yourself, and also tell her you are no trying to be mean, but you don't want to see her set herself up for failure. I have found the best way to lose weight is by diet pills, and no i don't OTC ones either, those are fad pills and only lead people to believe they really work, if you don't exercises for 8 hours a day and eat nothing but carrots and drink water you're screwed! Anyways, the pill is called phendimetrazine pronounces ( phen- ter-a -mean) she only get from a doctor who will watch her blood pressure and weight her monthly to keep track of her weight loss. Now, while these pills are awesome and work really good, they are not a miracle pill, she has to do a little work, but these pills will speed her up and make the results come faster. Tell her to watch what she eats still, drink lots of water, and walk maybe 2 miles a day. I started the pills in Jan. its now march 13 and i have lost 33 pounds easily!! Its really a great product!! Its kind of expensive but works really good! Good luck to your friend!

This diet would be extremely unhealthy, and be almost all water weight.
Just go to the gym for an hour or so 2-3x a week, and eat a little healthier.
Otherwise it all comes back at a swig of water.
