Back in the year 2000 I bought my prom dress in Monterrey Mexico, I made 2 trips, but I scheduled them around the time my mother was going to see her father(so it was convenient) I was measured once then when I went to pick it up it was exactly what I expected.... it only cost me $50....It was hand made and look like a $300 gown...everyone that saw it loved it and thought it cost way more than what I paid. So I had a good experience....

December of 2005 my sis in law had her Quincenera, she bought her dress in Matamoros, Mexico because she thought it would be cheaper there.....well she ended up having to make a whole bunch of trips because they kept screwing up the dress....at the end she still did not get exactly what she wanted and ended up spending more on the trips going over there then what the dress was worth..... she had a bad experience.

If you want to go over to Mex and get your dress then go ahead but you MUST trust the person you are getting it from, make sure they have experience!!! Most of the dresses over there are hand made and very original, and beautiful ....so don't expect to find name brand stuff at a cheap price.

If Name brand is what you want then stick to finding a dress in the states.

I personally decided to get my dress here, simply because I could take my time and try various styles, designers and boutiques.....On a trip to Mexico you have a time limit and if you are NOT familiar with the area you are visiting you might miss out on the really great stores and not to mention designers.

Hope this helps!

All I have to say is if your not going to go there... like your going to mail order it or get it off the internet just give yourself enought time for a replacement dress. Sometimes they show pics of a designer dress and send you a cheap knock off. That's a prob on ebay right now with dresses from China.
