I have a horrible time with self discipline, it affects every thing that I do. Do you have good self discipline?

If so, what is your trick?

I have a hard time disciplining myself to eat right, not smoke, wake up on time, and a vast amount of things I should do better but don't.

Do you have any little tricks that helps you discipline yourself to do something?

Start setting some goals. You need to tackle one problem at a time. Decide which is most important right now,getting up on time, eating right,not smoking etc.,then write a contract for yourself. A god example would be: I will get up on time twice a week by:
1. Going to bed 1/2 hr earlier
2. Setting my clock 15 mins earlier than usual
3.Preparing everything I need the night before
Date it,sign it and post it somewhere where you will see it every day. Review your progress in one week. Once you see that you are successful,increase the number of days that you get up on time by one more day ie: (3). Review again in one week. You need to start off in small steps with measurable and attainable goals. Once you feel confident about one goal,tackle the next one. Indulge in positive self-talk daily. Tell yourself each night before you fall asleep that you will reach your goal.

I believe that it depends on what you are trying to do. First you have to figure out what is important to you. What is important to you counts an awful lot. If you want to get up in the morning to go swimming or fishing (what ever floats your boat) you probably don't have a problem. If it is for fun, no problem. Try to get enjoyment out of what ever you are trying to accomplish. Find a good reason that you are trying to quit smoking. Not a reason others think you should. You must convince yourself of what you want, not what others want. when you figure out what that is it is an easy thing to do.

Here's a tip - When you're about to do something you don't want to do, just say to yourself, "JUST DO IT ALREADY!" and force youself to do it without hesitation.

The more time you spend standing there thinking about it, the less likely you're going to actually do it.

Sounds like lack of will power. Could be due to depression. You may need some medication. Go and see your doctor.
