I have now got my first case of poison ivy. I managed to get it pulling a vine off of a tree I was trimming. Just wondering if anybody had found anything otc that worked particularly well at drying the blisters up?

I appreciate everybody trying to help me out. I gotta say, I am not desperate enough yet to try the bleach thing- yet.

You have to let it run its course. What helped me the most was running water (as hot as you can stand it) over it. You'll get a very intense itch for a moment and then the itch will go away for a few hours. Cremes didn't do much to help.

You can soak in a medicated oatmeal bath (available from just about anywhere) if it's all over your body... but the tried and true method of applying Calamine lotion is still the best. You can also take a Benadryl to help relieve the itching and help dry up the blisters.

if you really want to get rid of it quick (now this will burn like hell but gets rid of the poison faster) done (put on) some old clothes go outside or if you have good aim over a sink, strach where the poison is try to open it up a little, next put a popsicle stick in your mouth (you'll see why after the next step) pour some bleach over the poison then bite down on the popsicle stick cause heres where the burning comes in. i know it sounds harsh but it really works i had the pleasure of the bleach treatment years ago

Try making a paste of crushed raw oatmeal and flaxseed oil and apply it to the area. The oatmeal helps stop itching and flaxseed oil reduces inflammation. If the skin is open you may want to try is pure aloe gel instead. Aloe gel disinfects, and speeds healing of any skin injury. Best of all it feels cool on a burning itch.

I use Caladryl lotion. But I just found out that one of the best things for the itch is extremely hot water. At hot as you can stand it -- and it works -- it takes the itch out.
