"Don't ever marry a man thinking/hoping they will change later on. If you can't live with and love that man exactly as he is, don't marry him." This is excellent advice in my opinion and I definitely kept that in mind when I chose to marry (happily married 7 yrs, looking forward to the next 50) Everyone has shortcomings, only you know if you can live with someone's particular shortcomings, just don't delude yourself that he will "grow out of it" or change if you just "nag him enough"

There was actually two things my Mom used to say that I truely believe and understand today:
1. " a drunk man says and does what a sober man thinks"
This is so true, most men need liquid courage to open up there heart and talk to you.
2. "You will only be a door mat, if you lay down and let them walk on you"
This statement made me be a strong woman, I don't bow down or kiss but to get along with people and I know my own mind.

the best advice my mom gave me was to respect her space...meaning to back off of her...when i was little i used to beg for her to hug me and she used to push me away and say.."respect my space!" "leave me alone"!...so now as an adult I left her alone and she is not in my lafe to verbally and emotionally abuse me anymore! Thank GOD!!
