It is certainly possible for an older dog to play a major role in training a new puppy. My senior dogs help me a lot when I bring puppies into the house.
Your role will be most important, though. You must remain in the position of pack leader and take responsibility for the majority of the training. The senior dog can be a good example during training, but will revert to more doggy behavior with a puppy around if not kept in line.
Puppy classes are also important to help socialize the puppy in a group environment away from the home.

just like humans, animals can play a big role in the training of your new puppy. The key is too make sure that you don't solely rely on your older dog to do all the work, the puppy is new and fresh to the world and so if you and the older dog set an example of what he is supposed to do, he will follow, and probably learn alot faster. Thats the benefit of an older dog!! Enjoy the new puppy!!

Possibly, but alot depends on your dog's personality and how long she has been the only dog getting attention in your home. It could turn out really bad, with the older dog attacking the young one, I would definately introduce them away from the home, in a neutral area, say a park. I also would pick the opposite sex that you currently have, the alpha dog will get super angry if you introduce a same sex animal in their territory, so take it easy, have more than one person available when you do the introduction. The older dog may really enjoy the young one, so much depends on how your older dog relates, take the chance........it will be fun.

Do you think that would be kind? In same ways its good for older dogs to have a puppy to play with, keeps them going. On the other hand, is she too old to appreciate the excitement a puppy would bring? Would she be miserable and jealous? If you do it, get a male, then you won't have the alpha thing to deal with.

Absolutely. Dogs are pack animals. Learning from others in their pack begins at birth, when they learn basic behaviors from their mother (one reason it's important to keep puppies with their dams until they are at least 8 weeks old).

Many people with Service Dogs and working dogs (whether herders, hunters, sled dogs, etc) will pair a new, young dog with their older, well trained dog in order to "break in" the younger dog. The young dogs learn behaviors by watching their elder. I've seen it countless times.

Now, if you get a puppy you will still have to deal with puppy issues (housetraining, exuberance, etc.), but I'll bet your older dog will play a big role in teaching the puppy the "rules".

Good luck!

It is possible that a puppy will pick up good habits from your current dog, its possible that she takes over and treats the pup like her own and teaches everything a mom should teach... But it's also very possible that she won't help at all.
Are YOU prepared to work with the puppy?

It could help depending on if the breed you get is a visual learner. I got a lab mix pup when my dog was 2 and she helped in training him. He followed her everywhere so potty training especially was a piece of cake. It definitely couldn't hurt to try it.

no one dog can't train another dog, any way your older dog will not like a puppy because it will bother the older dog. think..

yes it's very possible...and in reverse too...you're older well behaved dog could pick up bad habits from the new one. I've seen it go both ways.

It is more likely that your pup will pick up faults rather than good points. For example, if you put a pup into a car with a noisy dog you will end up with a noisy pup!
Start from scratch and train the pup yourself and let it form its own character and identity
Good luck
