I was once told that the main reason people hate God is because of Christians…. The guy that told me this was talking about the legalistic, judgmental Christians( more like the Pharisees Jesus had to deal with in the Gospal)….
Do you agree with this statement?

I am a Christian, and sadly, I agree with this statement to an extent. There is a quote, "Jesus, please protect me from your followers." It isn't so much that the majority of Christians are the legalistic, judgmental Christians, but it is more that the loudest ones are the legalistic Christians. It isn't right to act like this to other people. Christ said that we should love our enemies and bless those who persecute us. I follow that. If someone wants to believe differently than me, they have that right and the freedom to do so. It doesn't hurt my faith to admit that other people don't agree with me.

It's sad that there are many Christians that are so rude and so crude to other religions. However, I will say this. I think that using another person as a reason for not believing in Christianity is just searching for some sort of excuse. Someone shouldn't be the reason I believe in Christ and shouldn't be a reason for another person to NOT believe in Christ.

Yes. There is Scripture for this and lots of it.

All men are running from God. Railing against God is just another excuse or rationalization; but Christians are not to give to anyone just cause for speaking evil of God or the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

It applies to more than those who are legalistic; going to include being convicted of fraud or theft or other crimes. Read I Peter for a start.

Look how fine it is. If I can eat meat sacrificed to idols, but have a brother who is offended by the same; I should be willing to set aside my freedom so as not to offend this brother.

If I name the name of Christ Jesus, then I should live so as not to give any man cause to scoff; even if that means living below the freedoms I am allowed.

You give this principal to a lot of people who call themselves Christians and the response is ----Bet Me! I don't have to do that! See where we have gone in the spirit?

Scripture says women should not dress in clothing that pertains to a man, pants and slacks for example. Do I hear any one say Amen? No, up comes a spirit contrary to the Word of God -- and you will find that they cannot and will not; even if it offends another sister in Christ.

Yes I agree there are valid reasons why Christians are called on their testimony and God is enjoined.

Personally, I don't hate God. I dislike the Christian version of God and disagree with it, and I dislike the more zealous Christians who think it's their way or the highway. I don't really agree with that statement. Some don't hate God, they just hate religion. Some people no longer believe in God because they don't (and it was likely brought on by their study of Christianity). And others no longer believe in the Christian perception of God. Not believing and hating are two very different things.

First, I do not hate God. No atheist I know, and I know quite a few, hates God. What would be the point? It would be a waste of emotion, like hating the Tooth Fairy. Second, no, my atheism is because I examined the evidence and realized it was the logical choice. As a christian I was forcing myself to believe things I knew were not true.

Yea that is probably right, some of us don't hate God, just don't believe that he exists. That make the legalistic Christians you are talking about a big joke.

Well, I don't hate god (he doesn't exist, so that would be kinda silly), so I can only give my opinion. But I can sort of see how christians would give god a bad name. Many of them are bad people. I know many non-christians are too, but the bad christians go around acting all holier than thou in public and do terrible things in private. In addition, christians seem to think that it is their right to force everyone else to follow their moral opinions by creating laws designed to deny others their rights, which also doesn't make them very popular.

There are bad in all types of people, even Christians...I feel that main reason people hate God is just simply stupidity. They don't care enough about God or themselves to even consider where they came from and everything that God has done for them...

There are probably more people that don't believe in god than hate god. And you musn't confuse the two.

No, I don't believe that because they are smart enough to know the difference. If it is God that is behind them then, why do they hate him, I mean why don't they obey him? If it is not God behind them then why do they hate God?
