God gave us the free will and intelligence to develop such technology, but we should take care to use it wisely. It should be used only to help, never to harm.
I feel the best use of the technology would be to remove defective genes or treat existing genetic diseases and cancer. I also approve of disease-resistant GM crops to enable humanity to feed itself, and medicine-making GM microbes to treat illness.
I draw the line at "designer" babies, where the parents choose the appearance, intelligence etc. But I believe that the option of checking and possibly correcting faulty genes is a good one.
No "designer" animals either, where the only motive is profit, so no living Pokemon etc.
And most definitely no viral or bacterial weaponry!

I work with a Gene. Why would GOD mess with the Genes? Maybe he could start with the Scotts or the Freds.

hmmm... as a Christian, I would refrain from the word "Right" it is an American thing that we think we have the right to alot of stuff. However back on topic, I think no. In the bible it says not to breed animals of different kinds (which is comparable to gene splicing today) so I say no we shouldn't mess with genes.

I was raised Roman Catholic and feel that God gave man the intelligence to cure illness, and if it takes "interfering" with genes to do that, I say its "right", for the good of all humans. But I do not believe in cloning just for the sake of being "able" to do something and or recreate your pet poodle.

I think if that were true, he wouldn't have given us such great minds to figure out how to manipulate genes and prevent so many diseases and problems. If you had a child with primordial dwarfism, for example, in the states, do you know how impossible it is to get medical insurance for that baby, and how much medical cost is incurred, not to mention the likelyhood of losing them at a very young age?... just one example.

We already allow doctors to interfere with our bodies in numerous ways, there is no real difference between that and gene therapy etc. There are numerous diseases that can be treated by manipulating our DNA.

as an atheist. I firmly believe that genitic diseases ( down syndrome, cystic fibrosis etc ) should be DESTROYED as soon as it is detected in the fetus. I e. kill the kid that would pollute the pool.
I am strongly against the the walmart baby ( picking and choosing everything you want the kid to have) . But I do want such horrible things removed forever.
