I'm having a baby boy near the end of June and I've decided that I want the nursery to be full of bright and bold colors. Does anyone have ideas as to what the theme could be? I'm going to have to piece things together rather than buy "themed bedding sets" because they are way out of my price range. I'm looking for mostly motifs involving red, black & white.

What about a Geometric theme. You could include all the bright colors of your choice...and maybe do a painting on the wall with all those colors of circles...triangles...squares....rectangle...hectigon...etc. Not only will it be colorful....but educational!!!

The one I have planned for when I have a boy is a safari animal theme with clouds, sun, moon and stars. Walmart has these sets you can buy to make a baby crib comforter, then matching fabric to make the accessories...bumber pad, diaper holder, etc. I don't sew, so I had my mom and husband's aunt help me. Then I had planned on having my sister-in-law make some animal prints to frame that mimicked the animals on the comforter. Also you could go on Ebay and pick a set up for much less then at baby stores or you could try looking at garage sales. Another idea for a theme I really like are sailboats and lighthouses. Also teddy bears is cute. Maybe you could pick out a wallpaper border you like and work on a theme from there?

Our son is also due in (the beginning of) June and the nursery theme for us is "Under the Sea". Not the childlike pastel version you see at the baby stores but the real, bright and bold colors you would see in the ocean.

As far as the prices on crib sets go, yea, they were outrageous... anything that was anywhere near theme-specific was astronomical. So, instead, my wife went and bought the fabric and made her own. ha!!

If the themed bedding sets are out of your price range then you should try looking on Ebay. You can find new and used sets on there and if you are okay with getting used you could probably even find everything in one auction. Ive seen some auctions that include everything from the crib set and curtains to matching lamps all in one bundle. So look there and you may find just what you are looking for and still stay within your budget. Good luck!!

I did my son's room in the jungle theme... I first used the jungle mural I purchased from www.tatouagedesigns.com and then I used plain bedding and curtains... with the bright bold colors of the mural i was able to buy inexpensive bedding and decor for the entire nursery... it looks like something out of a magazine. My son is now 19 months old, and he absolutely loves his room! I think this theme will stay with him for some time.

CONGRATS on the baby.. I'm due my self in the beginning of July ,also expecting a boy. i completely understand ,the prices ARE rediculas. but if you are going with those colors (red blackand white) maybe you should try fire trucks or elphabet themes . ive seen some really adorable / afordable crib bedding stuff at burlington coat factory(baby depot). i dont know if that stoe is close to where you are but you could look at the web site maybe?www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com
good luck with your search and congrats again.
