I am a Disabled Veteran and I am in the Vocational Rehabilitation Program and I have asthma and a bad knee, so I am limited to an office job and I really like social work but I can only get a Bachelor's degree in this field. Is a Bachelor's enough for this kind of work?

In most cases to do school social work you would need a Master's degree. Now a BSW will give you the opportunity to do a lot of things. In fact within the Veteran's area it is the more common degree in some agencies. If you do a BSW you also would be eligible to apply for advanced standing to most MSW programs (allowing you to do that program in a year). Also with a BSW you could do Voc rehab work. The BSW is a pretty good entry level degree and depending on what part of the country you are in it could be enough to do a lot (if you are in an area that does not have a lot of MSW's..rural areas for example). Hope that helps. DA

You really need to check with the social work board in your state. In some states you can get licensed in social work with only a bachelors. In others, you must have a masters. There will always be some jobs in any state that you can do some sort of case management without a license, but the main jobs are going to be licensed. I know in Alabama, you can get licensed with a bachelors, but in Georgia, you must have a masters in order to get licensed. So it will be important to look at your state requirements. Other than that, there is a ton of things that you can do with only a bachelors degree. It is a very generalist positions.

Its enough for quite a few jobs in the field, such as Case Manager, or some standard social work jobs. You can always get your CDCC certification as well, if you want to go into drug or chemical dependance counceling, and all that takes is a bachelors with the Cert too.

A Bachlor's should be enough for some positions, but some require a Master's now. I would talk to your rehabilitator for more details about programs and schools.
