Well, lets just say that they say no more write off. I wonder how many will not be able to afford the massive amount of money they give to charity every year because they will figure they can't afford to and then now that the government is making so much money with the extra revenue they can afford to take up the slack in the programs we contributed to so heavily right? WRONG, The poor people would not get any help then huh?

Churches and contributers are able to write off charitable contributions because they get nothing in return for what they give. Churches perform important functions in society, some running hospitals, orphanages, old-age homes, schools and the like. They run soup kitchens, food banks offer counseling and more. The work that isn't performed by churches and other charitable organizations would need to be replaced somehow, and likely by increasing taxation. I think it works fine as it is.

Good question, especially when you consider what a HUGE business many churches do. And don't even start to tell me these churches are doing 'God's work.' Look at Jim Bakker. Look at Benny Hinn. Look at The Snake, aka Jerry Falwell. Look at Pat Robertson. God's work? Far from it. They are hatemongering, fear-based boobs.

There are a lot of churches that contribute to the needy and the community. I think you are generalizing.
