I'm 13 5ft 6 and 12 stone am i overwieght? and how much do i need to loose

You have a BMI of 27.1 and this is the BMI index:
Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

So you are a bit overweight and would need to lose about 20 lbs. Don't worry too much though you are only young.

I really couldn't say definitely if you're overweight.

Do you exercise?

It's boring and you've probably heard it a million times. However I'm going to try and make this more interesting. The best way to be a healthy weight is to exercise several times a week and to lay off the junk food (high fat and high sugar). Now here comes the more interesting bit. You don't have to make that exercise formal workouts in the gym. I happen to love gym workouts but I realise that not everyone does. If you don't enjoy it, you won't keep it up. Your exercse can be dancing or cycling or roller blading or playing team sports or any vigorous activity you can think of. If you're inactive right now you'll find it tough at first but I promise you'll find it easier quite quickly.

As for the food side, laying off the junk food doesn't mean you can never have it - just don't live on the stuff and if junk food is your thing right now reduce it slowly and adopt a healthier eating plan gradually.

By the way, you may have noticed that I haven't used the word diet cos that suggests drastically reducing how much you eat. Not eating is not the way to lose weight. The body is very cleaver and is very good at combatting a starvation diet, so if you don't eat enough you'll end up unhealthy and unhappy, not lean and healthy.

Yes, you are a bit overweight. I'm 23 and 7' 1/2 stone, and that's always been my weight, even after pregnancy. It's medically normal and healthy for my size and BMI.
The average 13 yr old girl should be around 7 to 8 stone, I think (but I'm not a doctor so could be talking c**p!!!) :-)

It all depends on how you look (do you look fat or do you just weigh a lot?) and also whether you physically feel healthy.

I really hope you're not asking this because you're being bullied? It's got nothing to do with what others think about you, it's how YOU feel about yourself that matters xx

Do NOT go on a diet. They don't work and they're dangerous, especially at your age.

My god ur a tall young lady at 135ft 6 inches, u must be the tallest girl in the world. No being serious love u could lose some weight but dont go crazey or get urself down.

Aim to lose 2 stone for now, but pop in to see ur practice nurse and get weighed etc, follow what ur nurse says, try and lose it slowly as u will hopefully keep it off.

The safest and most effective way to loose weight is through Weight Watchers or just watching what you eat by sticking to the basic food groups. Good luck!!

For every person a "healthy" weight is different. If you really think you are overweight you can go to a nutritionist or doctor. Remember, you don't have to be stick thin.
