The engagement ring is a gift of love. You don't need it and sometimes it's given to the guy. However it's VERY common for the girls to recieve one.
The wedding band is definately the most important- it sybolizes the marriage (a circle without beginning or end).
If you dont' want the engagement ring that's fine but you should do the wedding band- it doesn't have to be expensive.

You don't have to buy either. There is no law that says any rings must be worn. In the US, it is customary to present your bride with an engagement ring on the day of your engagement, and for both bride and groom to buy wedding bands to wear when they're married. Other cultures do it differently - where I grew up, there was no tradition of an engagement ring, only wedding rings were used (always just plain gold bands, with no stones). Most women wear both their engagement ring and their wedding band on the same finger (wedding band first, then engagement ring on top of it), but it's not set in stone, and one can choose to wear them in any combination, or not wear them at all. I wear my wedding band on the left hand, and my engagement ring on the right - as they don't match. It is all a matter of personal preference.

You don't have to purchase both and it's the preference of the bride as to which she wears. We're not married yet but I love my engagement ring and don't take it off. Some women choose not to do wedding band and to just wear the engagement ring as a wedding band. Some women choose not to do the engagement ring and just have the band. And some women want to wear both. It's a personal preference.

Traditionally, yes. Depending on the woman, she may wear it everyday- or she may not wear it at all. I never wore rings before I got engaged, and now I wear my engagement ring AND my wedding band every single day. Many women I know say the same thing. The band is not more important. The engagement ring is equally, if not more important (because it's what you're proposing with and more expensive).

No you do not have to buy both at once. Women who have both usually wear them most of the time. It depends on your financial situation. We chose to use the money for our business. Once it was successful we had enough to buy a special ring and one that was nicer than if we had bought before marriage..(25 years later) But to some young ladies getting an engagement ring is very important. So weigh the facts and act accordingly. Good luck!

When you propose you give her an engagement ring. When you get married you buy wedding bands for both of you! I wear both everyday! I've been married for 9 years!

Nope- you don't have to buy both at once or at all. Get the engagement ring first (this is an investment- don't be cheap) and then when you get married you get the band if you want. Women always wear both together- most women have then sautered together actually. If you only want to get one though- get the engagement ring- girls like diamonds- and they love to show it off- so don't get something you won't be proud of. :-)
Good luck!

Engagement ring is more important, you buy that first and the band later for the wedding day.
