I think that the idea that we're taking Christ out of everything is daft. He shouldn't be IN everything anyway. Not all the world is Christian, and to presume so is arrogant.
The church was once the ruler of the Western World, but Christ never intended his followers to be kings and emperors.. Remember that Rome fell only AFTER it became Christian and corrupt.
BCE and CE make sense in an academic sense. The connection is still strong enough in that CE refers to a specific point in history that is defined by when Jesus supposedly lived. This religion already infects the world enough, and there is no good reason to give it more than it deserves.
Those protesting such things as X-mas are so ignorant that they forget that X is the greek letter for the CH sound. It has been used for more than a thousand years as Christ's initial, yet the right wish us to believe that by using that letter, we're X-ing Christ out. Whatever. Believe you're persecuted. Believe that Christians haven't killed untold thousands of people in the name of their "peaceful" god. Beleive that we're persecuting you and that it's not the other way around. Promulgate the lies, and mabye they'll stick again.

C.E. and B.C.E. are the proper terms to use.
people don't always use them just like the proper way to write the roman numeral for 4 is IIII. It was changed to accomodate more space on clocks as the numeral you probably learned in school as IV.
C.E. is the correct way to use it. However as you will obvioulsy (like most christians) try to assimilate the rest of the world in an attempt to force christianity and its beliefs into every day things of non-christians, you will obviously not respect the proper terms.
And christians wonder why they get challenged on the validity of thier beliefs....
And lose....
Its called live and let live, not live and let only those agree with you live how they want and get respect.

It's clear from your statement that you really couldn't care less about what the rest of the world thinks. You have all the answers, so why bother?
Do whatever you want.
Those of us who are willing to respect other people's beliefs, practices and ways of being in the world will use C.E. You'll look archaic and out of touch, just the way you want it.

Actually, the "death" of Christ has nothing to do with the designations. "Anno Domine" means "Year of the Lord" and purportedly dates from his BIRTH. Otherwise he would not have supposedly died in "33 AD".
The Gregorian calendar is the "lingua franca" of world commerce, but A.D. doesn't make much sense in non-Christian areas. BCE/CE is neutral and understandable everywhere, it IS the "common" era, the one everyone uses, whatever religious calendar they also have.

It's just another attempt to take Christ out of everything. Thank God!
It's called secularization, and the reason that's a good thing is because not everybody in the world believes in Jesus Christ. If it makes you feel all nice and justified to call it a "PC" move, knock yourself out. But relax - we still count the years from the time his legend claims he was born, more or less.

Actually, I thought BC was before Christ's birth, not death. And actually, Christ was born around 4 AD/CE (or was it BC/BCE? can't remember) , and died around 40 AD/CE (or 36 AD/CE).
I was a Religion and History major, and we used BCE/CE in all my classes. It's just a system of dating. I'm sure that noone converted to Christianity because we used BC/AD. Oversensitive people using political correctness to further their own agendas. It's God's place to judge them, not ours. It's our job to preserve what we know to be right.

As long as all your readers or listeners are Christians, I guess it doesn't matter. But if you want to reach a larger audience, you should use C.E. and B.C.E.

I still say BC and AD, just like I say Thursday, which is named after Thor and June which is named after Juno, and use the Julian Calendar.
It's convention, and it works. I don't care who it's named after.
