It drops off when the conviction is 'spent'. With drink driving I am not entirely sure when that is, but I believe it is around 10 years. Once the conviction is spent you can get your licence reissued without the offence.

Edit: having just checked, the endorsement period is 11 years. Check out the DVLA website below

A drink driving offence will remain visable on your licence for 10 years, after this period you can send your licence to the DVLA for it to be removed. Todays cost of a removal is £19.00

The endorsement lasts for eleven years. It can only be removed from your licence after the eleven years has elapsed and in order to do it you have to apply to the DVLA in Swansea. All the details you need are available on the DVLA website. Go to www.dvla.gov.uk where you can see the necessary application forms to get it all sorted out. Good luck.

It should remain on your record for a lifetime. In fact, your license plate should state DUI Offender. Driving drunk is no different than running in a mall shooting a gun. Will I hit, injure or kill someone today? I believe that a DUI offender should be charged with attempted murder and serve about 5 years minimum. Maybe you will think before you drink and drive again! The US is too lenient of these offenders!

I think it comes off ten years after you get your licence back.

The only way...which I seriously doubt it will happen...is to try to have the conviction "expunged" from the record.

This doesn't normally happen and would require the assistance of an attorney.

Best wishes.
