How can two people that have shared each other completely step back and share everything but the intimacy?

Maybe friends... but not best friends. Maybe you two think you're best friends, but the "best" will soon fade... Best friends talk about the guys/girls they like and think are hot or cute or whatever... it will start to get harder once one of you find someone else.

If it is at all possible it is gonna take ALOT of time. You have to allow yourselves time to get over the breakup and the reason you broke up, get over the feelings, get over the heartbreak, get over the hatred...its just gonna take a lot of time. If you recently broke up, no its not gonna work because you haven't had time to sort out your feelings yet. Give it some time, don't rush it. After that, I think you'll be ok

You can remain friends, but not best friends.
Give a break with him or her for a period of at least 6 months or till a year and then a less frequent contact will do.

Yes you can. It depends on how "over" the relationship the two of you actually are. My ex (who I've known for 10yrs) happens to be one of my best friends. We dated for 2yrs btw and we broke up 6yrs ago. It can happen. Nothing is impossible.

no.

not normally.

you'll stay talking for a month or a few months and then one person will just stop.

it gets awkward and once one person has moved on the friendship normally ends.

personally my ex's are ANNOYING and I cannot have a decent convo with them so the friendships end.

If you two didn't work out and you really are good friends you'll stay that way. My ex and i are the best of friends. I'll always trust him.

If you and this person are really good friends then it should stay that way if you really want to.
