Today, I found a litter of stray puppies, their mom is so thin and looks like she is going to die, so I am going to try my best to find homes for these 5 puppies.
I took one home and took it to the vets straight away, she told me he is about 5 weeks old, I bought a milk replacement (it is a powder you mix with warm water) I tried to feed this through a bottle. He is not taking the milk from the bottle, but he is not taking it from a shallow plate either. Shall I give him normal milk? Or water? WHAT SHALL I GIVE HIM TO DRINK? AND HOW SHALL I GIVE IT? Please help, I am afraid he might dehydrate! Please! I am a first time owner.

try an eye dropper. Fill the eye dropper with the milk replacement and slowly squirt it into the pups mouth. If you have a syringe you could use that the same way. Anything little that you can fill up and put in the pups mouth should work.
Good Luck

Well you should try giving them regular milk in a dog bowl. If that doesn't work then give him clean water in a dog bowl. Did you ask the vet what you should give the pups and the mother? If the vet doesn't know then you should go to pet stores because I am sure they have had a problem like this before. If not then they still might know what to do. Even if they do dehydrate then just remember that you are doing a WONDERFUL thing for these pups and their mother! I think you are doing great to save these pups/mother's lives! Keep up the great work and I hope everything turns out ok!

For now, Use the milk replacer and add a bit of karo syrup and pedialyte. The karo syrup is for glucose which will give thr pup enough energy to suck and the pedialyte is to replace electrolyes lost if he is dehydrated. I usually make my own puppy formula from goats milk (in a can), 1 beaten egg yolk, Karo syrup (1Tbsp) and pedialyte (1/4 -1/2 cup). Warm it up a bit and try using either an eye dropper or a medicine syringe, without the needle, of course. Don't use regular milk it's too hard for a pup to digest and don't force it down him or he may aspirate some into his lungs. Easy does it.Good luck!

Keep Trying every hour or half hour with the bottle, he might just not be hungry right now If you can't get him to eat anything you need to take him back to the vet. Remember baby puppies that are so young they need to be bottle fed are like baby humans they need to be fed in the middle of the night too. Stay in touch with the vet and make phone calls to them every time you have a question the nurses can usually help you and you arent charged for a phone call. Good luck with the puppies I hope everything turns out well and all the puppies find good homes. If i were you I would take the momma to the humane society if she is in that dire of shape; at least they can try to help her get back on her feet.

the milk substitute should be used instead of normal milk as the lactose in normal milk could give him diarrhoea. in a normal puppy environment at the age of 5 weeks they can be weaned so i would try a good value puppy diet probably tinned instead of biscuits just try small meals 3-4 times daily and offer him the water and milk separately. alternatively try soaking some puppy biscuits in the milk replacement and see if that works otherwise take him back to your vet.

He might have already started to be weaned off of her milk, try mixing some of the milk replacement with some canned puppy food and see how he does. In addition to that put water down for him and make sure he has access to it at all times.

Use the milk replacement, cow milk will make him sick. It might take a bit of coaxing to get him to drink, you might actually have to force some down him, but he'll get it. He can have some water too, but he needs that formula. If he's having a hard time figuring out the bottle, try a syringe. Is there any way of taking care of the mom, feeding her, etc., until she's strong enough to feed her babies?

Remember the other part, after he eats, you need to use a warm, moist cotton ball and wipe off his tushy, that's how you get them to go potty.

Try forceing the milk on him and also keep a bowl of fresh water next to his food.If he starts to eat good and starts to drink water on his own then dont worry about the milk.8 weeks is the idea age to be weaned but alot of people who are in a rush get rid of the pups at 5 and 6 weeks of age and those pups do fine on just water and puppy food. Also if the vet gave any kind of shot to the pup then it may not want to eat or drink for seversl hours.

take all of them to the vet or spca. they will have the best advice for you. the puppies need to be with the mom until they are at least 7 weeks... should be 8 or 9 though. make sure the mom eats dog food and drinks plenty of water.

Continue to use the milk stuff the vet gave you and try using a medicine dropper.
