No, I'm not trying to be funny or insulting.

Not too long ago, I addressed this woman in a store whom I initially thought was a man. Very short hair, no makeup, jeans, t-shirt, nothing to suggest femininity whatsoever. I referred to her as "sir" and she about went ballistic. "I am NOT a 'sir', I'm a 'ma'am!!! How dare you? Blah blah blah..." All I could do was apologize over and over again. So embarrassing....

Anyway, has this ever happened to you or know someone it has happened to? How did you deal with it or she deal with it? And how did the other person who addressed you as "sir" react when he/she was corrected?

I have short hair, but I'm really feminine looking, so you couldn't mistake me for a dude. Not with these 36 DD'S I've been bless with. I think that when wearing short cuts like that earrings are imperative!!!!

If it makes you feel any better, my hubby has long hair. Longer than mine. Many times when we go to bars ( I think because it's dark in there) the bartender will ask us: "What would you two ladies like to drink?"
My hubby just roll his eyes while I start laughing. There is no reason to get mad though...everyone makes mistakes. The bartender usually quickly apologizes when he takes a good look at the hubby. It's just funny...

What did you tell the lady afterwards?

So I dont exactly remember what happened but I called him something that suggested feminity and he just kinda of look at me all "C'mon now" look...like its happened before. so yeahh. thats my little story to tell

I've accidentally thought other girls were guys before. I used to be told I looked boyish too, when I was young. If it's an honest mistake, all you can do is apologize and they need to accept it.
