how exactly do i need to type it in...does it really matter?

Prob Best to leave a space and use Capitals

(Might not be required as such, but it eliminates doubt!)

Post codes relate to a group of properties, not necessarily just one. The first two letters of the code relate to the sorting office responsible for the main sort of the post. For example, premises in Stirling, Scotland nearly all beging "FK", the abbreviation for Falkirk, where the main sorting office is.
The first number of the post code more closely defines a geographical area, the last number and two letters define even more closely the actual street etc. Most on-line services need a post code and property number to verify a correct location. Entering in any format, in lower case or capitals, with or without spaces is acceptable to the vast majoirty of companies.

It does matter, especially for mail order companies. If you don't get it right, then your mail will be delayed. Believe, me, I run a mail order company and postcode abuse drives us demented! And capital letters ARE important - otherwise automatic address recognition software just spits your address out and your order goes to the bottom of the pile!

Look at these examples:

WC1X 4BJ (only London p'codes have the extra letter at the end of the first section, and then only some of them)

or S11 2BR

or TN36 8HJ

To simplify things, the second half always only has one number and two letters.

I always put a space in the middle. But on British or US websites, I have never had any trouble whether I use upper case letters or not.

Ideally it should be in two parts for example S5 8gn there has to be a space, but most sites either split it automaticlly or dont mind either way...

Hope this helped xXx Jessica

A UK postcode MUST read XX00 0XX. Capital letters are ESSENTIAL.

SW7 8LL; always capitals; always a space after the first three. And, yes it does matter.

As long as the postcode is correct and in the right order, Royal Mail can do the rest.------I would do XXO XYO.
