Honestly, I don't know... but I've heard people say that the weight they lost while doing it was from the "problem areas", such as the pregnancy fat that accumulates at the belly and at the love handles (that's mostly a guy thing, I think, but I guess women get them, too). I'd guess it would be about half of what you might burn body-wide from jogging. But, if you can use a hula hoop for a half hour straight, (me personally) I would think that's impressive; I can barely walk a straight line some days. Anyway, good luck with your hula hooping.

not enough to make a real difference. you have to do quite a few reps.
