If you're looking for GREAT beer, it isn't going to be cheap. Anything by the Brooklyn brewing company is amazing, and by far my favorite. They have a great taste to them. Look for Brooklyn Lager- they also have 2 seasonal beers out right now. Monster Ale (like 10% alc. by vol. ) and Chocolate Stout (also like 10%) You should hurry and try them before they're gone for the season. You'll be hooked.
If you're not into these try, Heresy by Weyerbacher--also very very tasty!!!

I would say that it is a beer called Duvel from Belgium. It has a bit of a sweet taste with a fizzyness like champagne. It's pretty amazing actually and it hits you hard. A friend of mine told me that there is a bar in his hometown (Gent in Belgium) that will pay anyone who drinks 12 in one hour, 1000 Euros because it is so potent! I didn't believe him at first but after 4 I started to believe because I was done for the night. Anyway, if you can get this at a local specialist beer store try it out.

If you like Lite beer- Sam Adams Lite rocks as does Amstel Light. If you want a heavier beer, there are tons around. Every region has it's own Microbrews so it kind of depends where you're at. I personally like Sam Adams beers.

I agree with paha4u... I love LOVE Brooklyn Black Chocolate, a winter release. Good luck in finding one at this late date. The Blanche de Brooklyn is also good.
Bell's Expedition Stout - another hearty one
Guinness - staple for stout aficionados
Hoegaarden Original White Ale - lighter but yum belgian beer

If you want a light beer, Medalla Light has won best tasting light beer in the world the past two years. When I'm not up for a light, I prefer Corona or Heineken.

Try Planet Porter, Warsteiner Dunkle, BridgePort IPA. Come to the dark side of the beer, my friend.

Try some microbrews, ambers and wheat beers are the mildest, then go for the IPAs after you get accustomed to the more hoppy taste!
