Check out amazon.com or a local book store (Barns and Noble). Below I have given my advice on how to study.
Every night, review what you learned and study what you need to for one hour. The next day, review what you studied and then study the new stuff. Then repeat the process every day.
Besides studying every day, you can...
- Create flashcards (for vocab, dates, people, etc).
- Make up songs to memorize facts.
- Write and say things over and over again.
- Teach the info to someone else. If you are able to, this shows that you understand what you are learning.
- Make up a few questions and answers each day. Make sure it's just on the info you learned that day. Then use them to quiz yourself before a test in school.
- Study with a friend or group of friends.
- Ask for help from a classmate, friend, or teacher / get a tutor.

Most study is reading, and my favorite book about that is "How to read a book". It really improved my study habits and comprehension.

study smarter, not harder is a popular one aimed at high school kids, but an amazon.com search for "study skills" will land a lot of results
