The D100 is a more rugged camera - it has a metal body vs plastic and it has a heavy duty shutter, rated for 100,000 actuations vs. 50,000. The D100 can also do 5 FPS vs. 3. But other than that, the D70 is just as good. Most importantly, the image quality is just as good.
Keep in mind that the D100 was announced in February 2002 and the D70 is from January 2004. In that two year interval, the technology of entry level dSLR cameras fully caught up with the D100.

I do not really have personal experience with the D100, but my neighbors owned both of these cameras. Her camera was a D100 and his was a D70. When he got the D70 (NOT a D70s), he said he couldn't keep her away from it as she liked it better than her own D100. Of course, now that she has a D200, he is the one with camera envy.
