It all depends on your culture. Im italian and when I got married 22 years ago, it cost me $60.00 per person and booze was included. It is much more expensive now, I know if I would get married again today, it would cost aprox. $120.00 per person , booze included.
Good Luck...start saving !!

There is no such thing as a "regular reception." The cost will vary greatly depending on what you want. The Catholic church will charge you a fee. It will vary depending on the popularity of that location. The one I used was only $40, but it was in the suburbs and wasn't ornately decorated like the older ones in town. You'll also have to pay for pre-cana classes, at least if you do them in one weekend. Ours was $300 and included two nights in the hotel and food. If you choose the weekly classes I'm not sure if there is a fee.
As to the reception, you can go as low as $10/person up to hundreds per person. An open bar can become very expensive. Your best option may be to look into the packages offered by hotels. Many of the ones I looked at had buffett dinners with cake, champagne toast, open bar, and even DJ sometimes for $70-80/person. My husband has a large extended family so that was too much for us. We had a backyard reception. We bought some different platters and wholesale alcohol. We didn't request it but most people brought a snack or their own liquor to share too. I think we had about 300 people and only spent something like $1000. (That's about $3.33/person, cheap!) We reused the flowers from the church and since the family has large outdoors parties all the time, we were able to borrow the tents/tables/chairs they use for those. Just figure out what you can afford and plan accordingly. Don't go into debt for a party. The whole point is to celebrate your new lives together and the gifts are supposed to help you establish a new home. If you spend all your money on the party, you won't have a home to take them to. People will be happy if you are happy. They do not need extravagant dinners and top-shelf, all they can consume drinks in the trendiest spot around. Just be happy and do what you want and can afford. People will like that.

Today, a catholic ceremony, wedding reception and all the trimmings will cost in the vicinity of $35 to 40K. Most wedding facilities charge approximately $100 per person and the price goes up from there.

It's not the Catholic-ness of the wedding that has anything to do with cost. For a wedding at any church of any faith, you have to pay an honorarium for a priest or minister, for the use of the church, and the hall.
Total cost totally depends on the number of people attending; without that, there is no guessing.
Our traditional Catholic wedding for 200 was 15K - and nothing fancy...

Also Italian and I've been to three weddings this year that cost about $120.00 per head including the alcohol. A Catholic Church will charge you a fee for getting married there. My brother is getting married next month and the Church requested a $500 "donation". They refuse to call it a fee but instead a donation. That's their way around it. Good luck to you in your upcoming wedding.
