we just bought a 5 week old female amstaff terrier... long story short, the couple we bought her from told us she was 10 weeks, then later sliped up and told up she was born Jan.31, making her only 5 weeks... we also have a 4 month old amstaff terrier, and he ADORES her! however, she antagonizes him to no end... biting, scratching, growling. then when shes tired she cuddles up to him to go to sleep... is it normal for a 5 week old to be so aggressive?? is this a sign that she will be an aggressive adult?? PLEASE HELP ME!!!

first off 5wks is too young to take from mother second 5wk and 4 mos should only be together when supervised.im very dissapointed that a breeder would let one go at 5wks secondly i would think that there would be a noticable difference in 5wk vs. 10wk in size maybe your con fused and he meant that they were welped on that date not born that would be better 10 wk pupps are usually almost twice as big as 5wk pups. the the biting scratching is similated nursing and normal puppy play its all about dominance. be careful larger pup doesnt hurt smaller pup i would not suggest keeping them together full time just yet.as for the aggression they are typically a somewhat natural aggressive breed i would not call it natural aggression as much as natural COURAGE but the puppy is born perfect its only gonna be what you make of it.this brred requires a strong responsable owner i hope that you have planned on socializing, training and securing the soon to be dog , meaning outside kennal fence underground fence/collar or at he very least a tie out.i also should ask why you decided on this breed does it fit your lifestyle and your personality.often people choose dog because its cute or cool to own new fad, whatever thats not the best way to choose your dog mainly because they dont think of the future and the unfortunately the dog winds up unhappy or worse.if the dog is 5wks you should also moisten the food with either water,(dogor babyformula)dry food untill 8-10wks.

Relax, it isnt a sign of agression, but if it is not controlled it could lead to such a thing. You are the mother. You need to teach the puppy that that is not playing nice. If the playtime becomes to rough, seperate them for a little while, and try again. Seperation usually takes the rough play away, however if you are not consistant, and dont let the puppy understand why he's being taken away form play- it wont work. But also give consideration for the age difference. She needs your guidiance while she grows up, so dont give up!
Oh, make sure the puppy has alot of her OWN toys, that the other dog wont touch. This way she'll have her way of 'establishing' something. Bully sticks are an EXCELLENT choice, as well as 4-5 star chew toys. Make sure the other pup doesn't get ahold of the toys that are hers.

I hate to tell you, but you are going to have one heck of a problem on your hands. Weeks 6-8, the mother disciplines her puppies and teaches them bounderies. They learn limitations, bounderies, respect, rules, and so forth in this time frame. Since these lovely "breeders" eliminated that part, that means that the dog that she is with has the responsability to teach her that- PLUS you.
So your 4 month old puppy "takes it" without disciplining (of course- he's a puppy too). Now it is up to you.

There is no way you should've gotten this puppy that early. She had so much she could've learned from her littermates and her mother.

It is very important that you do not treat her like she is "precious royalty," but give her bounderies and enforce the rules. She does not walk through doors before you, she does not just take things out of your hand, she doesn't mouth you, she doesn't get up on the couch or bed...

Getting two puppies close together is a bad idea too. Your 4 month old amstaff needs loving and firm leadership, and now you have another pup who is going to need it even more than him. I would seriously find the youngest puppy another home (try rescue groups through petfinder.com) and train the one that you have. I've seen the outcome of this too much to have any optimistic advice for you.

When you have an adult dog who is trained, they help train the new pup. Unfortunately, you have two very young dogs, and it is possible that they will ignore you to be with eachother.

No pup should be sold so young! I think that's criminal. Puppies learn from their mother and their litter mates when play is too rough. They get their needed social skills
before they go to a new home.

It is based on positive training. Read a lot of the past posts to find situations like your own and see how the problems were resolved. Then use those techniques.

Your 4 month old may have good bite inhibition and be a nice polite fellow. He's a little kid, too and may not realize that it is up to him to set boundaries to this wild young female. He sure isn't old enough to be a parent! You will need to step in and redirect the younger pup. You need to learn how and when to act to protect your older pup from harm as well as teach your younger girl to restrain herself while being able to play and be happy.

Please learn how to train these dogs so they won't be future problems. There is only a short time to get them socialized.
Have fun with them, but learn also how to make training fun. If you get in to the right routine with them now, they will be the best dogs ever.

Good luck!

she is treating like she would if he was one of the original brothers or sisters. All puppies when in a litter bite play and jump on each other. they are just playing she is just not as shy as the other. Have you ever gotten a puppy that you picked out from a litter. When you observed the puppies did you notice that one of then are really funny and playful and when you see other puppies they are more timid. This is the same thing. Don't worry he will liven up and get tired of being a plaything. Good luck with your babies.

The puppy is playing. i have a kitten who is a terror just like your puppy. You will have to stop it from harming the older one but know it is just playing. It will stop as it gets older so long as no human is playing rough with it. i don't mean hurting it when i say rough. just wrestling with young animals can make them think it ok to bite people. 5 weeks, wow that shouldn't be weaned yet. I've had cats and dogs over 40 years and I could tell you some stories about breeders.good luck

The dog won't be mean unless you make him/her that way. I have a pitbull and it's so nice. I don't let other people treat it mean. Maybe the smaller puppys want to be with you....That the way Pitbull play.....My dog is 5 months and she is still nibbling on me. Aww I love pitbull I wish I could lock all the owners up that fight there dogs. That just wrong I tell you! It all depends on what kind of jean you dog has depends if mother and father were mean too? You can change that..Just show it repect. It might just wanna be the only one in the house.

I would let the two dogs work out their own status at this point. Your older dog is probably being extra nice to let the younger one have some fun and get to feel at home. As the puppy gets a little older he may start to train her, as, of course, must you. Five weeks is very young and all a five week old pup needs is lots of love and understanding, not discipline.

Does the word puppy mean anything to you. Really the 5 week old is just trying to get to know what is around him and the other dog. If the 4 month old pup didn't like it then he would let the young one know. Just relax and nature will take its course

The dogs are trying to establish dominace. Your 5week old is acting totaly normal. He is trying to figure out where he stands, there may be some "humping" and other such nonsence. If it gets to be more then what you are comfortable with, so if he is bearing teeth, and his ears are flat against his head, then it is more then playing and you need to step in while they are young and let them know that YOU are the ALPHA above them. It may take a few weeks, but they will be fine.
