Last night while walking my doggies I saw a fella throwing a ball for his dog on a field at the end of the street. Beside this field is a main road and when it was clear of traffic this fella sometimes threw the ball that way instead. A couple of times the dog missed the ball and had to chase further up the street for it, fortunately a car appeared only once. But even so, isn't that very irresponsible? I've seen him do it once before but I just thought he'd made a mistake when letting go of the ball and it had gone the wrong way. Would I be arrested if I slapped his stupid face? I didn't mean that of course, but I could be tempted.

The bloke is seriously irresponsible. Do you think maybe he has some mental issues and doesn't realise that roads = cars = possible death? If I was a cop, and saw you slap him, I'd pretend I was looking the other way!!

Yeah, doesn't sound too good for the dog.
The other day I went to the post office. After getting out of my car I noticed that the car beside me had two occupants. They were children in their booster seats around 2-3 years old. So of course I waited for the irresponsible parent. A man walked out of the post office and saw me by the car. He kept looking at me all the while avoiding eye contact. When I was fairly certain he was the "adult" in the situation I asked him if these were his children. Still w/o eye contact he says "yes". I said you know these kids can be stolen in a matter of seconds? He said "I was only in there for a couple of seconds:" I shocked myself as I said in a very stern, usually only reserved for my children when they were young and doing something I thought was dangerous "DONT DO IT AGAIN." He just got in his car and drove off. Im sure he plans on doing it again.
So my point? I guess you can mention it to him that youre afraid that his dog might get hit but dont expect him to stop.
Good luck.

That is undoubtedly very irresponsible. Not only does he put his dog on constant threat of being run over, he also elevates the risk of traffic accident. I suggest you call 911 and tell the police that there is a dog that constantly runs across the street and had almost been run over by a car. Do not tell them about the owner or they won't take you seriously.

It IS very irresponsible, but, you do not have the right to slap his face, of course. Do you have a leash law where you live? I hope this is not the ONLY place the man can think to let his dog play. Do you know of a better place for the man to throw a ball and to play with his dog? IF you DO, please tell him about how safe the other place IS! If you approach him nicely, and mention another place that is safe for the critter, he might actually try it. Just try not to offend the man.

Next time you see him doing that why not wander over and ask him why he's doing it, tell him apart from endangering his dog that if there's an accident he will be totally responsible and could end up inside. He's probably not thinking about what he's doing. If that doesn't work then tell the police about an accident waiting to happen and hopefully they will come and sort him out. DON'T slap him, though he deserves it. You could always video him with your phone to show the police.

Wow, that is very irresponsible. And as a person who's dog was killed by being hit by a car, I can't believe this guy! I would try to refrain from the slapping though. Maybe a nice conversation might let him know you're concerned. Mention something about dogs being hit by cars. Maybe that'll wise him up.

yes this is very irresponsible. what you want to do is see if the guy notices you if you walk by and see him throw the ball that direction. if he doesnt react, contact the local spca. they dont put up with that kind of crap.
if he doesnt care for his dog, then idiots and @sses shouldnt be owners.
i wish we could push people in front of moving buses and then pull them back jst before they get hit. see how they feel about it.

Yes this is quite irresponsible dog owner behavior, and yes you will most likely end up in jail is you slap him. (although he most definately deserves it) Maybe he is just an idiot who just doesn't realize the dangers of this. Maybe you can ask him about it. Hopefully he isn't trying to get his dog intentionally hit.

i saw someone doing the same thing outside my house once.
It just shows the mentality of the owner. The dog probably has more sense than them.
No doubt if the dog had been run over the owner would be furious.

Sounds like this guy needs to start being responsible for his poor dogey, sounds like he is trying to injure the poor thing. Maybe he does'nt actually think his dog will get hurt, or maybe he does'nt particularly care (maybe he has a partner who makes him take the dog out for walks against his will so he take it out on the dog.) Either way this guy needs to sort himself out and start being a responsible dog owner.
