Seriously, can you?
And not just your 'rents, but also the bible. That thing was written by old jews 2,000 years ago when people were 2,000 years more ignorant than we are today, and as such I will not accept any passages from the bible as a form of logic.

I can't help but feel anger at the scientific progress being held up and the lives being lost over mythological justifications. Come on people, this is 2007, as far as the future goes, we're in it. I don't know about you, but when I think of the future I don't think of people still holding on to their God-shaped-security blankets just to be able to get out of bed and function in the world, do you? I mean am I alone in being pissed off at the abusrdity of it all?

You know, I rejected the religion of my parents, because after an honest evaluation of the evidence, I knew that they were wrong.
Yet, I did not discard religion altogether, after continuing to look at the information, I found a religion that teaches everything to be completely logical. when it come to matters of science, the religion I support does absolutely nothing to try and hinder the scientific persuits of the human race.
But, the one thing I did notice from the extensive study of world history, and the bible is this: what may seem like totally logical scientific fact today, is typically scoffed at in less than 200 years. Do you not realize, that the residents of all the great civilizations throughout history, all felt the way that you do now? That the people before them were, "ignorant", backwards, un-educated?
We can say the sam thing of the people of 50 years ago.
Back in the 50's, "Modern Medical Science", decided to use X-Rays to try and remove a non-life threatening birthmark frommy mother's leg. The net result? they destroyed the bone in her leg.
In the 60's, they gave my mom morning sickness pills while she was pregnant with my brother. Net result? he was born with congenital glaucoma, which, had the pediatrition noticed my brother's eyes bulging from the trapped pressure, could have saved him from going blind as an infant.
These are two personal examples of the failings of science/medicine.
Another? In the early 80's, all the major fastfood chains,and the manufacterers of processed foods, switched from animal fat to partially hydrogenated vegetable shortening. All the studies, 'proved' this would be healthier. Turns out it was healthier, not for the consumer, but for the sellers of foods. What they really had created, was something thay served their interests. That, being, longer lifespan and shelflife.
The advantage for consumers, of having a heathy alternative to animal fats, has finally been revealed as a lie. NOW, science KNOWs that patrially hydrogenated vegetable shortening is worse for us than animal fats.

I guess what the point is that I am trying to share with you, is this, science has many times been beneficial, but in this day and age, science is motivated by money, not by the altruism.
The idea that scientists working feverishly to solve the problems of humanity, is just not true. The reality we all know, is that pharmacuetical companies no longer look for a "cure", they look for a "treatment". Energy concerns, do not want to promote free electricity from the sun, so their scientists and studies suggest that our only feasable options are biofuels.

Now that I have expressed my viewpoint, I can probably assume that the science that is being obstructed by believers in god must have to do with stem cells. Their is absolutely no way on earth, that religion will stop this reseach. The bottom line is this, there is big money to be made with the prospects of that research, and the concerns of the corporations pursuing stem cell research, will do as they wish, whether relgionist like it or not.
Of course you can be sure that some of those who are vehemently opposed, will do a 180, if they will somehow benefit. But not all.

If I were you, I would try to learn how to relax. It really doesn't matter what other people and groups of people are doing.
What I like too do is to acknowledge the contradictions and corruptions, and conspiricies, and then I live my life knowing that it doesn't matter. We all live. We all die. Why not try and enjoy our lives while we have them instead of getting upset at the perceived stupidity of others?
