It could also be evidence of something like Crohn's Disease or IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Either of those can also have blood evident. But rectal bleeding can be from many problems.... so it's best to not try to do self diagnosis online & get to the doctor for a educated look.
I have Crohn's Disease and I had the exact symptom you're talking about. With medication & watching what I eat I am symptom free now.
See your doctor ASAP & find out.

If it is red blood, you probably just have hemorrhoids. Colon cancer often results in 'occult' (which just means "hidden") blood. You might notice this as blackness in the stool.
Since you are concerned, I would ask your doctor if he/she recommends an occult blood test, especially if there is any history of colon cancer in your family. It would be unusual to have it under age 40, but a test and a sigmoidoscopy periodically (every 5 years or so) is enough to detect (and so treat & completely cure) this kind of cancer before it becomes life-threatening...
Best wishes...

Of course, it is always best to see a doctor in this situation. Try not to worry too much, 37 is still pretty young to have colon cancer especially if you don't have a family history, although it possible. I went to the doctor a few weeks ago for this, and the doctor thought it was either a hemherroid or anal fissure. After the exam, turns out it was just a fissure. Try not to worry too much, but it's best to tell your doc.

From the National Cancer Institute, the 7 warning signs of cancer are--
C- Change in bowel or bladder habits
A- A sore that does not heal
U- Unusual bleeding or discharge
T- Thickening or lump in breast or elsewhere
I- Indigestion or Dysphagia (difficult or painful swallowing)
O- Obvious change in wart or mole
N- Nagging cough or hoarseness
Search for answers by looking outside of the medical field, in the area of alternative medicine. There are hundreds of methods to heal the body, and drugs only suppress the issue (not heal it). Most disease issues are internal because the blood carries toxins that accumulate in the body. The system needs to be cleansed (colon and liver especially), and given nutrition.
Cleansing the body is a method I've seen done many times with success and it doesn't matter how old you are. We must remove toxins. One strategy is detoxifying with herbs, water, and juice fasting. One must educate oneself.

There are many other good books about surviving this disease, and you should know about this option, even if you choose to go the traditional route with it's abysmal prognosis. Best of luck.

you probably have hemroids. Try eating at least 2 apples a day, eat oatmeal for breakfeast and drink 8-10 glasses of water for the rest of the week and see it that helps. It might be that youer not getting enough fiber so your straining while going poop.
