i just started a new diet, and i plan on loosing 3 lbs a week. i want to be able to loose at least 60 lbs by the end of july. do you think this is a reasonable goal? i want to do it slowly as well, because i dont want any saging skin. can you also give me some tips or advice as to what to do, to minimize saging, since i have 60 lbs to loose. thank you in advance for your help. i am also walking anywhere from 30-45 min a day. do you think adding wrist weights will help?

If you have looked at any books, for example Bob Greene's Best Life Diet, you would see in there that he quotes studies that show that you can't lose more than 3 lbs a week. It just can't be done.
If you want to do it slowly and want to lose a lot, plan on 2 lbs a week, but be OK with any change or small changes. You can do it! I lost 30 lbs and have gained so much muscle and I have more energy, too.
Best advice is DON'T GET DISCOURAGED! You can do it! Just remember your portions and write down everything you eat. Even the cheats! What I found best for walking is 3 separate miles a day. I couldn't find a 45 minute period, but this way, if I got one walk in, great 2 walks terrific and all three walks was doing really good!
You can do this!
Good luck!

I'd reccommend setting a little more long term goals. Like losing 5-10 pounds a month. This is a goal that you'll be more likely to achieve. Plus you won't get discouraged by focusing on your weight week by week. (Over a week your weight may go up and down) Focus on long term, how you look, and how you feel. Crash dieting is not good for the body and you might end up gaining the weight back. Good luck!

3 lbs a week is perfectly safe. you don't want to go much more than that to make sure you are still getting all your nutrients, so 60 lbs by the end of July may be pushing it. weights- ankle and wrist will definitely help. also try toning exercises like light situps and pushups, lots of stretching. If you have access to a club or YMCA, swimming is a great low-impact exercise that will burn fat and calories as well as toning you all over

I wouldn't count on losing 3 lbs a week, it seems a bit too much. You might start out that quickly, but it will slow down.

I would plan on an average of 1-2 lbs per week. It is more realistic and accounts for those weeks when you don't stick to your diet/exercise as well as the other weeks.

That is a great attitude that you have. Most people would want to lose the 60 lbs in the first week. Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged if you hit a plateau..just change arount some things to get your body working again. Good luck.
