Yes, Global Warming is a real and dangerous thing. When the sun's light rays reach the earth's atmosphere, they are either reflected back to space, or they change frequency and pass to reach the earth.

What determines their direction is the thickness, make up and density of the atmosphere.

The atmosphere is made up of many different gases, including oxygen, which is the one that we need to stay alive.

As our machines release more hostile gases into the atmosphere they change the density of it and more and more light rays from the sun are not reflected back to space but stay close to the earth.

This changes the temperature of the earth, increasing it.

The most obvious way we have seen this harm us is with the increased strength of hurricanes. They are heat generated storms. They only occur during the summer months when the ocean temperature is warmest.

Back in the 1950s the oceans' temperatures were cooler and hurricanes were not nearly as powerful as they are now. This is unmistakable evidence that the planet is warming.

Also the reduction of the ice caps in the Arctic and Antarctic is evidence that the general temperature of the planet is increasing. Current satellite photos from space compared to years ago show a definite reduction in the size of these ice caps. What causes the ice to melt? The increase of temperature.

By the time people realize the severity of the problem, it will be too late to fix it. There are too many people who don't believe it is a problem (our beloved President being one of them and most Republicans in the Congress) so that nothing is going to be done.

Young kids in school and their kids will face a horrible existence compared to what life once was on this nice green planet.

It's too bad. Earth: The planet that was destroyed by greed and arrogance.

My research indicates that global warming is real, albeit not very significant. My research also indicates that there has been gross distorting of data in order to link global warming to the increase in atmospheric CO2, and further distortion of the scant data available to link the increase in CO2 to human endeavor.

Edit:
The summary report of the IPCC referenced by Anupa S was written by politicians, not scientists, and the Boston Globe article covering it indicated that the IPCC scientists expressed dismay over its too-conclusive wording. The actual IPCC report is not due out until May.

In the course of my research I stumbled across the fact that the increase in atmospheric CO2 is almost exactly equal to the increase in life expectancy in the U. S. It is ludicrous to infer causality from this correlation, one way or the other. The hysteria and hyperbole over global warming is equally ludicrous. One can make a good argument that the increase in CO2 may be caused by the global warming causing release of dissolved CO2 from our oceans.

The most prevalent greenhouse gas in our atmosphere is H2O, ranging from 1% to 4%. H2O vapor is at least buoyant in our atmosphere whereas CO2 is not, and CO2 represents no more than 0.04% of the atmosphere.

Global warming is real but the effects it might have on our planet is disputable. The consequences will surely be getting from bad to worse. How else would you explain snow falling in Kashmir in March, heavy rainfalls and floods. Where is all this water coming from? Ice caps melting, that is how. This also explains the increase in sea levels. Now is not the time to ask if Global warming is believable or not, it is time to act. Try and stop this process and put it in reverse gear. Plant trees, lots of them.

Global warming had its slow pace before 1900 A.D. , dependent on the natural forces for the most part. However, as the use of the Heat Engines took flight, the warming effect began accelerating. Increase in population, more and more additions of various comforts & facilities, greater travelling for even the daily activities like going and coming back from the job--all these put the warming effect on the course of exponential rise. However, I think the risk of depleting ozone layer is far more serious, as the very existence, kind(genetic degradation) and the quality of life on earth is being affected.

Hey ,dont ask question like 'do you believe in global warming'. Because it is actually happening. It is proved 100%. The main problem going to arise due to this is flooding of many coastal areas. INcrease in percentage composition of gases which shows green house effect(its not only CO2) absorbs heat. It results in melting of polar ice. It increases sea level.
Since you are doing project, the data from here wont be enough for you. There are many free online encyclopedias. Wikiepedia is one of it. Check it out.

what do you mean by asking "do you believe in it" it is something happening and is a very serious matter.the question is silly!but still let me answer it.due to excessive usage of vehicles a lot of harmful gases are constantly being released into atmosphere particularly carbon dioxide which has the capacity to trap heat.as a result the atmosphere is getting heated due to which the ice in polar regions is melting exponentially every year.and even in the atmosphere's ozone layer holes are being formed which is letting ultra violet rays reach the surface of earth which are indeed harmful.

It is a serious problem. Not really for today, but in the coming years.

Actually, the only people who do not believe in global warming are those paid not to believe in it and conspiracy nut jobs. The facts are pretty clear. It is basically the same as when the cigarette companies tried to cover up the evidence that smoking causes cancer. And actually, several of the same players are involved.

Yes, I do believe Global Warming is real. What else would explain Polar Bears going extinct, Greenland not having all the ice it once did, there is soo many other things that are pointing in that direction.

When you put 10 gallons of Gasoline into your car and then drive away where do you think the gasoline goes?

It doesn't just disappear. Ten gallons of gasoline weighs about 90 pounds. That same 90 pounds of gasoline becomes vapor then it gets oxidized in the engine. (Combined with oxygen). New products are formed including CO2, CO, NOx and Visable Ash. The mass remains. That means that your putting about 90 pounds of these products into the air. Add that to all the other cars and you have a huge amount of stuff going into the atmosphere. And we haven't even added the tons of stuff 1 large industrial plant might add to that every hour. Yes the atmosphere is about saturated with stuff. I've not seen the movie.

Plant trees, lots of trees.

Well it's not really a matter of believing because it is happening. We (humans) contribute to it by our vehicles and methods of making energy production (nuclear energy).I believe no matter what we do it will happen again and again because it's a process the world goes through, however we can reduce the rate at which glaciers are melting by reducing emissions and making the world a cleaner better place to live in.
