I've got a buddy who is a former cokehead from highschool and college and as now "found the Lord". Now whatever is good for him is great, but he is constantly on my last damn nerve with this crap. For instance he says that he wouldn't kill somebody even if it meant his wife and daughter were going to be raped. That's an extreme example but when a guy like that tells me I'm going to hell I got a problem. Anybody else have friends like this.

i was friends with this guy for a few years, and all my friends are christian but he started hanging out with one of his parents friends who is some kind of pastor. anyway he started attending this "way of the master" class, and i attended a little while with a couple other of my christian friends. (i didnt believe in it but i figured id go to see what its about). anyway he got really into it, and he has thrown out his tv, emptied his room of anything "non-christian" he has completely whiped his computer of any video games. he actually told my friend that playing video games was sinful as it takes time away from the lord. ok anyway im the only one whos not a christian of all my friends, and he proceeds to argue with me about the bible and how im a sinner and going to hell. so far everytime hes argued with me, ive left him stunned and he walks off angry and sits and reads his bible. he even told his brother (younger) that he would live to see the end times, that it would probably come around when he was around 20. that he is in for a ride and needs to hold to his faith. he calls up his brother to check up on him and make him come home so he can get up for church. his brother isnt anywhere near as much of a believer as he is, and his brother is 17. its sad.

he even told my christian friends that they are sinners and need to do a better job of being christian.

all of my friends and i pretty much cut him from the group, couldnt take it anymore. self righteous arrogance is annoying. i never once pushed my belief on him, and as for me and the rest of my christian friends we respect eachothers beliefs.

I have family who are born again creationist evangelical Christians. We keep in contact by letter but other than that we kinda don't talk at all.

Here is a technique I was taught for talking to people who are aggressive/confrontational

I don't want to talk about this anymore, please can we change the subject

(they continue)

I would really appreciate changing the subject and if we cannot then i will have to hang up/leave now

(they continue)

I am sorry i have to go I will call you/see you another time

Next time you speak to them don't mention what happened act as normal, repeat if they do it again or if they bring it up say its fine you just don't want to talk about that subject and move the conversation on again.

You may have to do this a few times and be warned you may loose a friend doing this but I cant see this situation being feasible for very long for you. If you choose to do this it will be very hard but persevere it took a year but I have managed to get my mother not to talk about my most sensitive subjects in a non-confrontational manner.

Remember keep everything about yourself and don't get aggressive, keep calm and be polite.
