I I'm a diabetic and i drink a few times a week. When I know that i am going to be drinking, i take less insulin because at first your sugars will be high, but later on the alcohol will lower your blood sugar count significantly. I don't know if it will stay in her system longer, but I do know that if she is having mixed drinks, drinking diet soda will make you blow higher Breathalyzers which probably means it makes you get drunk quicker? Just make sure she doesn't load up on insulin if she knows that she is going to be drinking a lot that night.

It is actually the condition of your liver that determines how fast alcohol metabolizes. A person that is a chronic alcoholic will take longer to remove the drinks than someone who is not.
Just remember that you should drink lots of water and take a good set of vitamins afterward: Folic Acid, Super B with C, and Thiamin. Alcohol dehydrates you body. In addition, it is dangerous for diabetics (especially "brittle" diabetics) because it can raise your blood sugars. As your friend knows, bad things can happen if your sugars get too high/low.
