I see this on his LES everytime he deploys and I keep forgetting to ask him what it is for. I know it's not pay for him being safe..lol... He is currently in Iraq (again). Thanks for the information everyone! I tried to ask finance but they wouldn't tell me because I don't have the right Power of Attorney...just my luck!

He is Active Duty Air Force. He is also a Crew Chief. He recieved SAFE pay (whatever that is) each time he went to Iraq. He gets it when he comes back after he files his travel voucher. He's there on his third tour in 12 months.

Your right! It is SAVE pay not SAFE pay. I had a dirty spot on my monitor. Yipes!! I think I lose a couple more brain cells everytime he leaves home!!

I know when my husband is deployed he gets "save" pay. I just looked at one of his LESs from when he was deployed and it says save pay is $100/month. I think it may be for being in a combat zone, but somehow separate from hazardous fire pay. I know they told us at the finance briefing before his last deployment, but I can't for the life of me remember.

Maybe rear detachment can tell you?

EDIT: I just looked on the 2007 military pay tables. It lists "hazardous duty incentive pay" as $150 (must've gone up since my husband was deployed) and "hostile fire pay" as $225. I'm pretty sure that hazardous duty pay is "save pay." Not sure why they don't just call it that on the LES though.

SAVE or SAFE pay is extra money for being in an arduous duty area. Not all persons deployed receive this. This added money for accepting duty in an area that is arduous in nature, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Diego Garcia, Iraq, and other such locations have been deemed arduous duty areas. Navy personnel on shipboard duty get Sea Pay vice Safe pay. Personnel on submarines get Sub Pay for submarine duty and sea pay.
