tonsillitis can be caused by many germs (viruses, bacteria etc). the thing is it might be dangerous to your health. what you shoud normally do, especially since you've mentioned the white stuff all over them, is to go see your physician immediatelly, or just go to the nearest hospital. they should take a sample of the white thing and see if it's caused by a bacteria (usually it's the beta-haemolytic streptococcus), by a fungus (e.g. candida) or by a virus. the treatment is different for each of these germs... so you shouldn't wait too much. The risks migh be high, especially if this infection is caused by the beta-haemolytic streptococcus (if you have a pre-existing heart disease or a heart valve defect, it might affect the layer of cells inside the cavities of the heart - the endocardum). go see a doc asap. try not to take any medication that your physician did not recommend, especially not antibiotics before the physician identifies the cause.

It's normal to have white spots. Gargle with salt water. If it is recurring a lot you may have to have your tonsils out to put a stop to it. I went through the exact same thing and finally had to have them out.
But beware...a tonsillectomy for a child is a snap, but it's harder for an adult. I've had 2 broken bones, 4 surgeries and 2 children and the tonsillectomy was the WORST of all of them.

No, this is not normal. What you may have is strep tonsillitis. The only remedy is antibiotics. You need to see a doctor right away. Strep can also infect your heart and kidneys, and untreated, can cause streptococcal pneumonia, which can rapidly becom fatal. SEE A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!
