I'd call them intelligent individuals. Leviticus, the 3rd book of the bible has all kinds of rules and regulations that most christians do not follow. for example, in leviticus 11:7 God tells Moses that the Israelites may not eat pigs. However, nearly all the true believers here in the bible belt eat pork barbeque, bacon, and other pork products.
I could give a million and one different examples from Leviticus alone: You can't eat animal fat or blood (lev 7:23, 7:26). Adultery should be punished by death to both parties (lev. 20:10). Men should not have sex with their wives during her menstral period (lev. 18:19). Not many christians would agree with these statements, but these are the rules God wants his chosen people to live by.
Even hardcore religious freaks don't believe in and follow everything in the bible, because certain commands by God are simply incompatible with modern society. For example, the public stoning of adulterers and homosexuals is no longer accepted, although that is the necessary punishment, according to the bible.

According to the Holy Bible these people are called lost and captives. It is one thing to know "about" God and completely different from "knowing" God in person. A person has to be able to accept the truths of God over the truths of man before they are able to live by the truth. This is why the Holy Spirit will lead us into ALL truth if we are willing to be led and accept the truths of God in our life. This is the renewing of our mind that is so important if we are to draw closer to God and have Him draw closer to us. This is also how we are able to break the hold that the lies and deceptions we have accepted in our past as true as they are revealed to us and we are able to discard them. It is when we fail to renew our mind and pursue the one on one personal relationship with the Living God that we are able to be decieved and misled in our lives by false teachers about what the truths of God really are.

You mean the "Christian" God I assume, or your question would cover anybody of a different religion.
Nearly all orthodox forms of Christianity insist on the bible, although some take a more "mystical" or "allegorical" approach to its interpretation than others. "Gnostic" Christianity is generally based on the idea that each individual must find his own path to "Christ," and that Church bureaucracy and dogma is not merely unnecessary, but a hinderance to this process. Historically the early Christian Gnostics had their own "gospels," which insisted on this supremacy of the individual and his personal experience of God over blind faith in doctrine.

When you say God, do you mean "A God" or "The Christian God". Would answer your question differently depending.
