It's all about the devil clouding people's minds distracting them from the truth and leading them to their deaths. He speaks half truths such as through psychics who think they are speaking to the dead when in reality they are speaking to demons who are assigned to us at birth and know everything about us. The demons respond in kind to mislead us to seek answeres from Mediums and not God. God is supernatural and so is the devil.

What real world facts? Just because a book holds some facts doesn't mean the entire book is true. Even though this is how some Christians present the Bible... they point out "well that war can be shown to happen in history", thinking because one point is true, then the rest of it must be true. That isn't how one goes about proving things though.... But I'm betting if I gave you a book that showed real world facts, yet also had "stories" in there about me flying around on a broom, you wouldn't be too quick to throw out what is proven to be fact, but I'm sure you wouldn't believe I fly around on a broom without some kind of proof that it can be done.... right?
This "if you take one thing, you have to take it all" is actually against the Bible itself, which states that you are to Prove ALL things - not just one or two points, but all....
Now, seeing as it's leading up to this... the Reason I am skeptic is because the Bible, in the Old Test, says to NOT believe or do as the "Heathens" do.... yet the stories in the New Test are almost the exact same stories the Heathens had... even back during the Old Test times! I'm skeptic of the Pagan images of "God(s)". I'm skeptic of anyone saying "This is Absolute Truth" yet can't back everything as Absolute. Like I said, you can't hand someone a book and state it's ALL true, just because certain points in it are true.
That's hardly a contradiction.... that's simple common sense.

I am an atheist. I am a subscriber to the magazine "Biblical Archaelogical Review."
I do not find a contradiction. In fact, I fully admit that the three books (The Koran, the Torah, and the Bible) are valid sources for historical references.
However, I also believe that the writings of Darwin, the Leakeys, and others give more insight into the origins of humans than 7 days of magic by a divine being.
I also believe that History can be subjective. Just because one person writes one version of history and another person writes another version, that does not mean that both versions do not contain some elements of truth, however both cannot be absoulte if not in agreement.
Take, for example, the Crusades. The Europeans viewed themsleves as heroic liberators from the heathen Arabs, while the Arabs viewed them as barbaric invaders who needed to be cast out. (kind of ironic, if you think about it)
As I said, there is no contradiction.

First of all, you're generalizing a whoooole lot of people.
I am VERY skeptical of God's existance due to the fact that many of the things in the bible are physically impossible.
I have kept a very open mind throughout my life, gone to many different churches and tried to learn as much as I can, and after all was said and done, I still don't believe because virgins can NOT get pregnant (which means it never happened or Mary was a big whore), men can't walk on water, and dead people are just that...they're DEAD.
It's not that I refuse to believe, its got more to do with the fact that I see it all as a load of crap. But hey, believe what you wanna believe...I don't judge believers, so I wouldn't expect to be judged in return =]

Actually, the Bible certainly has some things that are grounded in reality.
However, I disbelieve the impossible things because they are, in fact, impossible. For them to happen, God would have to use magic, which is also impossible. This is a pretty good argument for why God doesn't exist.
I think you are a bit confused as to what atheists believe about the Bible, though. I think you have misinterpreted some responses.

"...you say you dont believe it cuase you think everthing God does must be suppernatural&have no real world possibilities."
You make no sense dear.
I don't think god does ANYTHING.
I do not believe there is a god, period. And the bible is historical fiction, nothing more nor less.

The bible is a book of history and fiction. It's written by only men and contains only the parts they want to put in it. Along with facts from the past it contains a ton of misinterpretations and a brutal history of blood and war. I don't believe the bible because it's like i said, A HISTORY book, only written with stuff they want it to be written about; and for your gods sake use spell check.

I don't know what atheists you've been talking to, but they don't represent me.
I don't believe in any god because I see no credible evidence of one. There may be things in the bible that do have credible evidence that they happened. For example, I do believe that the roman empire existed, and that they used ritual torture to kill their enemies, because there is evidence to support that. That doesn't mean that one of their victims was a supernatural being.

I don't believe anything in the bible, period. From what I can see, there is nothing based in terrestrial reality. I admit it's a fine example of Elizabethan prose. But none of it is real.

I don't believe in the bible because it's a book. Do you believe every book you read? I don't believe in god because god only exists in the bible. I don't believe in the bible because it's a book. You see my logic here?
