Truck drivers would disconnect from their trailers and beeline it to the ATMs, Wal-Mart, then home.

How much food and water do you have on hand?

Do you think this scenario (or one like it) is likely?

I believe it's almost inevitable, and it would be like an anthill being kicked over. Our modern society will collapse if there is a lengthy disruption, panic and intense self-interest spree.

Will multiple cities burn? Will the rot of our society bloom and destroy what we've all worked so hard to build?

The Twin Towers took years to build, but an hour to fall. The Titanic...same. Is America about to perish?

What do you think?

What do you need to survive?

Food, water, shelter from the environment.

Lay in a 6 month supply of food. Have enough water or water purification capabilities for 6 months also. Shelter, use your home.

Lastly, you need to be able to defend yourself and your supplies. That means some guns and ammo. If Katrina did not open your eyes as to how ineffective law enforcement is, nothing will.

Kinda long but read it anyways.

I think that it depends on where you live and where the bomb hits. If the atomic bomb was at most 20 miles away from your home (more or less) then it would cause pretty bad damage to your house and property.

Also, and this ranges from at around a 30 mile distance or more, the fumes and gas explosions would pollute the air. Many people would die from the pollution in the air. The fumes of the powerful bomb would disable our immune system, so if we didn't die of the fumes, soon we would die of illnesses.

Radiation from the bomb would also be a major problem. It could mutate people into being unable to survive or cause serious illness that cannot be helped. Pregnant women's offspring may arrive with down syndrome, a genetic disorder in which the 21st chromosome of the 23 in a human cell makes an extra copy of itself. This will leave the child at some degree of mental retardation and possibly heart problems, which would bring the life expectancy after environmental hazards down even lower.

People who do not live close enough to be affected by the bombs may face problems with their community. There may not be much more water due to the radiation levels or other hazards caused by the atomic bomb, so people would be in need of more water. Food supply may also be scarce due to similar reasons or if food has to be donated to places where the bomb has struck. The community might have to store an extra supply of food to survive and many would be out of work if the bomb's disaster affected the finance of companies to pay for convalescence supplies.

Life might be very hard if 3 atomic bombs ever hit the United States. It would most likely be almost a reenactment of the Great Depression in the 1930's, only for a different reason. It would take a LONG time to get all of the country's matters in order and working again. Let's hope for now that there isn't any bombing done, but I suspect that it might happen some day when the world gets tired of the U.S.

Good question though!

Not very long. I have a feeling that I'd probably expire immediately from the bomb(s) exploding. But if something like what you described does happen, what would be the point of a continuing existence? Millions of people have died, havoc has ensued, everyone that survived the initial blasts is busy fighting for their own survival. Unless you remove yourself from the system as much as possible, have your own garden,(for food) animals (for meat) and know how to make everything you could possibly need to stay alive, you don't have a very good chance of making it.

And even then, what is the point? To rebuild? Why would anyone want to do that, knowing that eventually it'll all happen again? It just seems kind of pointless to me. Every form of government that people could possibly think of has been tried, every single one has failed. Eventually, according to history, anarchy always wins. In some societies, the entire civilization was destroyed due to war, natural disasters or environmental causes before their system collapsed, but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't have happened. History has proven that survival of the fittest is really, truly that. Only the best survive. Not a happy thought and I fervently hope that I have died (and my children, though I do not have any yet) before this society crumbles like every one before it.

I have been faced with this question for my whole life. I just wonder if I will be able to pull myself back together after I have been de-atomized and quantumly desimated. A good challenge for any being in the corridor where the A-bomb is a better solution than the stupid retrogressive state of slavery and overcontrol against my will by invading enemies.

You of course don't comprehend the term "tactical" in protection rigidity operations. A tactical nuke is designed to take out a somewhat small, particular aim. The blast effect of a tactical nuke might often no longer be felt outdoors an area of 0.5 a mile to a mile.

I live in a rural area next to the mountains where there's fresh water and game.

The greatest threat to the survival of the US of A is from within, not without. Apathy, ignorance, complacency are taking its toll steadily -- voting for people like the Bushes, Clintons, etc.

God SAVE America! Simple requests for blessings not enough.

I have connections, know where to go, and know how to survive off the land. All I have to do is get out of my city (which isn't that big so not a major problem). I carry a three day emergency survival kit for 2 people in my vehicle and keep the gas above a half tank.

The hurricane suseptible states are proof that America is not ready or prepared for disaster. Procrastination is abundant in states like Florida, who experience massive line ups at stores in the event of an impending hurricane.

Osama planned the same for 9/11. He assumed the Muslim in America would attack from all directions. This, like your scenario never and will never take place. Look at all the disasters of the last 50 years did this ever seem close?

A very long time. I don't live anywhere close to any place they'd think of nuking and I have lots and lots of ammo to hunt or defend with.
