White ink does exist, but it isn't always a terribly successful colour. Basically, the colours in a tattoo are viewed through the top layers of the skin, which contain natural pigmentation. People with very fair skin have few pigments in their skin, meaning white can show through pretty well - but it doesn't show up all that much, because their skin is so pale in the first place! On people whose skin tone is naturally darker white doesn't always work so well, because the upper layers of their skin are more pigmented, which interferes with what you see of the colour. For this reason, a lot of artists tend only to use white for highlights, using other colours as shading to give the impression of whiteness without actually relying too heavily on white ink. Having said that, other artists will do whole tattoos in white...

What I'd suggest is that you go along and talk to your tattoo artist, taking the picture you want; discuss the issue of the white, and get their opinions. There's very often a design solution to these kinds of situations, and they'll be able to advise you best. But unless you have very dark skin it sounds to me like it would be perfectly possible, because the darker 'outer space' areas would make a good contrast - the 'stars' would look bright without even needing to use a lot of white ink.

Hope this helps... and what's wrong with being a nerd?

Just make sure you look around at the artist's work. I have a fox with a starry night behind it and the stars look amazing. But one thing I've seen with different tattoos(I work at a water park so I see my fair share) there is definitely a broad range of talent in the tattoo artist world. The good news is, the good ones will have huge portfolios of their work

Sweet! Star Wars. I like you.

And yes, they shouldn't have any problem with it at all. They can do white or different shades of black/purple/etc in order to make the galaxy, as white fades a lot.

Well i don't know. I know that the color white hurts like ****! But you might wind up spending about $1,000 on that tat. Graphics and shading, take a lot of time and ink!

Yes, they can do white for a tattoo. However, in my opinion it looks sort of strange. I do have a friend who had a white whale tattoo, and it isn't my favorite of what I have seen.

Find someone who is good with negative space and your stars will come out just dandy.

Yeah, they'll usually just go back over the original with white.

It can be done. Pretty simple for a good tattoo artist.
