I also think that God gave us the strength of will and reason for a purpose. So according to the faithful of any religion am I going to hell where I will be tortured for all eternity along with child molesters, rapists, and other assorted sadists?

Oh damn! Somebody called me a Unitarian! I can assure you that is way off mark.

Paganism is a damn religion too!
Never said I was worried about going to hell, I was asking for a religious opinion.

My jury is out on Jesus, Muhammad, and any other figure with some great sounding stuff that nobody agrees on. Are they for real or history's con men. We can't know, so reason rules the day.

You would be an agnostic.

Whether or not you go to hell or get tortured for any length of time would depend on the religion. Some religions don't believe in Hell.

You might want to take a look at Unitarian Universalism. It is a human-based religion, where you are required to bring your brain into church, rather than leave it parked at the door. They study all religions in an effort to aid the congregants in strengthening their own beliefs and faith while helping other congregants strengthen theirs.

Besides... you're not going to Hell unless you go to Michigan.

If you are trying to say that you hate organized religion then I would say you are an intelligent person. You can study the teachings of Jesus on your own. You don't have to go to church to be a Christian and simply going to church doesn't make you a Christian.

On a very basic level, Christianity is a religion (or philosophy) based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God. You don't have to be a Christian to believe in God but you do have to believe in Jesus Christ to be a Christian. What I'm trying to say is that you don't have to follow any religion in order to believe in God. If you do believe in God then only God will be able to decide the heaven or hell issue for you. You should not look to the Christian bible for your answers if you are not a Christian.

no, logic states that :

there are billions of stars in our milky way galaxy alone

each of these stars has the potential to have orbiting planets, and there is a chance that a few of these planets have life, intelligent or otherwise.

there are more GALAXIES than there are stars in the milky way, thus, the potential for life bearing planets is then multiplied EXPONENTIALLY.

so, with the chance that there IS life out there being very high, why would "God" even care about earth?

we are a rocky ball covered in DihydrogenOxide, run by war mongering apes that drive hunks of metal, powered by intricately timed explosions in the engine.

that is it.

we are what we are because of evolution. our desire for survival has made us aware of our mortality, aware of our existance, but we are nothing special.

if the conditions were slightly different on earth over the past few million years, its possible that our arrogant little pet cats may be the ones with the civilizations, and we are kept in cages, just funny hairy little apes, eating, sh*tting, and f*cking.

thats life. Hell, is life, if you play it wrong. if you screw up too much, your life becomes hell.

when we die, thats it. blackness. our consiousness becomes obsolete, uneeded in a lifeless body.

we are only aware because it keeps us alive long enough to have sex and multiply, just like the rest of the parasites on this planet.

so, cheer up! no hell!

Our Founding Fathers of America were agnostics. An agnostic can be defined as one who denies that we have any knowledge, or one who would say there is nothing neither affirming nor denying the existence of a personal Deity, a future life, etc.

The kicker is: Jesus issued a blanket pardon. Paul said the Gentiles were included. Expect that the biggest problem for everyone will be boredom in the next life.

I think you need to do a little research on other religions. Not all relgions believe that you will go to hell, in fact many religions don't beleive in hell. Do some personal searching and maybe you will no longer hate all religions.
I am a pagan and don't believe in hell.

You have to define what you meen by "our creator." If you are refering to the Christian God then you are a non-denominational christian. If you simply believe in a supreme being that doesnt fall in line with any of the major religions then you are just a spiritual person.

If you follow strictly by those same major religions yes, your soul is dammed to hell, but i am one of those religious types that believes that as long as you believe in God that is enough.

You sound like you are a pretty good person except for the hate of religion.
Anything that leads us to anger or hate is not a Good God relationship but may be a religion in and of itself!
But if it is not from God we can tell because, it involves hate and it is wrong!
God gives us the strength to love like he loves, forgive like he forgives, enjoy his creation like we should enjoy our gifts and share them with others.
I think God doesn't send you to hell anymore than me unless we choose to deny God and continue to do Evil things. Here is the good part; this God that created and knows us, forgives us just by our saying; "Jesus forgive me." Period.

We have to do better though but If we are weak and do it again, God forgives us again because he sent his Son Jesus to redeem us from our bad choices. Goodness is a lite burden and evil is a heavy anchor around our necks. Blessings on you and hope to see you on the other side with me.

My advice is to research what you believe. You would be considered non-denominational if you wanted to label yourself, but if you do not want to conform to religion, don't label yourself. Faith is elusive and can't be defined by what you call yourself or what religious faction you are a part of. Search inside yourself for what you believe. Do not be intimidated by the beliefs of religion. Be open to what you believe and continue to explore it because the truth is out there waiting to be discovered.

well, you're hateful for starters!

but that depends on definition. If you're born again but don't actually belong to a church assembly, were baptized and perform your own communion, then you're not technically in a religion, just spiritually correct (in most ways).

but hating is never a good idea. God said "how can you say you love me whom you do not see, when you hate those who you can see?": God doesn't accept your love if you're hateful towards your spiritual siblings. It's not honest worship.

oh, and everyone who is not born again is separated from God.

I wish I knew the mind of God, but I do not.

I certinally have hope that the creator will choose to "save" all who have faith and seek purpose, and their creator earnesty. I dont know if you are doing that.

I hate a lot of what I see in religion, but I can see a lot of good in it too.
