Robert G. is correct. It is very possible to build a nice personal helicopter. It takes many thousands of hours to accomplish and cannot be done in a few weekends. You will need hangar space and many specialized tools. Plus you will need patience. Finally, you will need your helicopter pilot's license. Building one doesn't make you a pilot. Not even close. You'll spend over $10,000 just to get your private helicopter rating. Then you'll need many more hours of practice before you try to fly your own home-built. Remember, small piston engine helicopters are very touchy and difficult to fly. It's only the bigger turbine engine models with hydraulics and stabilization systems that flying becomes easier. So be careful!! Hope you have a big bank account. Good Luck!

If you are talking a personal helicopter?
The H-4 runs on a 125cc, eight horsepower engine operating two propellers. It can supposedly reach upwards of 56 miles per hours. It is available for 3.6 million yen or roughly $31,000 American George Washingtons.

What kind of helicopter? Light, medium, or heavy? They're all really expensive. 206B (Jet Rangers) go for about $500,00 - $800,000. Eurocopters $800,000-$1.2 mill. Mediums (S76's etc) start at around $1.5 used and it just goes on and on and upwards from there.
