My Persian cat got out of the house and went missing for 4 days (she's back home now)so now I'm wondering if I'll be having mutts pretty soon. How will I know and how can you tell if a cats pregnant?

Cats can't get pregnant unless they're in heat, but heat isn't always noticeable right from the start - and if she was gone for four days, she might have been just at the beginning of her heat when she got out.
The best thing to do would be to have her spayed. that way, you can be sure you won't have "mutts" - even if this happens again.
Signs of pregnancy include pink, protruding nipples, restlessness, and a "baby belly". But they don't show up until quite late in the pregnancy (which, btw, takes 60-65 days, 63 on average).

Hate to break this to you but cats are induced ovulators.....Meaning that being bred will stimulate her to release eggs. So, that four day span when she went missing would be plenty of time for her to have gotten a little busy with the neighbor cats. Gestation period for a cat is about 62-65 days. If you don't have kittens after that time, you are one lucky person!!
Get your cat spayed and you won't have to worry about it! If kittens really aren't your idea of a good time right now, cats can be spayed right up until the litter of kittens are due. If you want to know for sure if the cat is pregnant, an ultrasound can be done at about 20-30 days and an x-ray after about 40-45 days.

Do you know your cat's cycle? Are you SURE she was not in heat? If she's pregnant and you don't want an extra vet bill to find out.. just wait about a month and you will know when her nipples grow and belly gets big. Other than that, have her tested.

i don't think that cats can get preg. if they're not in heat. its kinda like humans (women can't get preg. if they're not ovulating) you'll know if your cat is preg. if she starts acting weird and wants to be by herself alot, and is a lot more testier than she used to be. also she'll not be as friendly as she was before and starts eating alot more than she did. GOOD LUCK! (also she would still be in heat b/c i think that it lasts for a week...so if she's in heat when she got home then its probably a good chance she got preg. when she was out)

Agreeing with the person above me. Cats are induced ovulators. Mating causes them to ovulate. However the girl won't mate if she's not in heat. She will reject males. So, basically it boils down to this
For cats sex= pregnancy
but a girl won't "have sex" if she's not in heat
That's the way it works.

cats getting pregnant just like people getting pregnant, sort of. Cats can probably get pregnant less chance just as a woman after her mentral cycle. When she starts to get fat than you know shes preg.

Most people cant tell until a few weeks before birth. If it has not been that long since she came back, get her spayed ASAP.

as far as i know, no. i believe the cat has to be in the right part of its menstrual cycle to conceive

no they have to be in heat. I would suggest you get her spayed if you dont want kittens
