Absolutely. You should work your way up slowly, and you will get better results that way. You can do more reps, increase by 5, and when that is still too light, talk to a trainer.

Also consider your breathing, and you are lifting, you should exhale. Controlling your breathing is very helpful to reducing over exertion in your body.

Your abdomen is a hollow cylinder within which your organs are contained. They are all held in place by a lining on the inside of the cylinder. the wall of the abdomen is made of muscle.
when you lift weights you squeeze your tummy/abdominal muscles to stabilise your body. If you do this with a held breath, the pressure inside your abdomen rises and squeezes the organs. if there is a weakness in the abdominal wall a part of the organs are pushed by the high pressure inside into the abdominal wall and the outside as a lump. whenever you raise the pressure the lump pops out (like when coughing, sneezing or straining). its the same principle as squeezing toothpaste out of the container!!!
So yes lifting any weight with a bad technique can cause a hernia. the way to avoid it is to do less heavy weights and breathe out as you strain (dont hold your breath) and by good technique.

i think of your secure. actual it relies upon on what you intend to do with the dumbell yet in view that's a small weight you may desire to be nice. you would be able to desire to start to stress once you get to greater weighs and you do greater extreme trainings. The muscle mass, quite weaker muscle mass, can tear from the extreme rigidity/ rigidity positioned on them from lifting very Heavy weights. The contents like an organ interior the wall can then "spill out" or stick out inflicting discomfort. that's what the hernia is. merely be useful to have a buddy help spot you once you start up doing greater extreme education.

Yep, my uncle got a hernia couple months back, he owns a liquor store... so he goes to wholesale places like Jetro(supplier for small businessses and stuff). And like he's been lifting heavy boxes and stuff for quite awhile, guess his old body had enough.
