She could wear a color that is the same as the bridesmaid dresses, but in a different style. If you do not want her in the same color... you should pick a few colors that look good with the bridesmaid colors. You should go with her to a dress shop to try on different colors and styles. That way you can see the best styles and colors, and come to an agreement on colors and styles that you both like.

Maybe a lavendar or grape color to match the bridesmaids... just a different style. Or to compliment the lavender, go with a light/pale yellow... they are complimentary colors...I wouldnt suggest white, because that would take away from your dress and black is just too dark.

Suggest some pretty colors that flatter your mom and see if she likes any of them. The important thing is for her to feel comfortable in what she is wearing and feeling that she looks good in it. Go shopping together and bring dresses to her attention that you think would look good. You can subtly say things like 'the color of this dress would look nice with the bridesmaids' dresses and it compliments your eyes' or something along those lines.

Have her wear something complimentary to the bridesmaids.
Either a darker or lighter shade or tone of the same colour.
Or a colour that is complimentary of the bridesmaids dresses.
For my wedding my bridesmaids wore cornflower blue and my mom wore a silvery blue.
It looked very nice in the photos because it blended.

I think she should have a dress that is the same color as your bridesmaid dresses. Let her choose a dress that she likes and is comfortable wearing. Pick out several dresses for her to try on that match one of your wedding colors. Let her pick out the dress of her choice from the options you give her. She will look like she is part of the wedding party but everyone will know that she is special.

It might be better if your mom wore a suit which co-ordinated with the bridesmaids. (maybe with an accented scarf). This is why a suit could be better. If she wore a dress, she might look like she was joining them!
With a hat she'll still retain the 'mother of the bride' look. I think that is lovely. I hope if I get married that my Mum will give me away too.
Have a great day

A muted color would probably be best - and it can be any color she would like.
I think blue or green might look nice against your white dress and it wouldn't clash with the lavendar/grape bridesmaids.

Why not have her wear a solid color, one of the accent colors of you bridesmaid dresses. The grape sounds good.

I have seen two weddings...once the mom wore black and once the mom wore silver. I thought the silver looked elegant, matched the wedding theme, yet stood out in a wonderful way.
I pick silver.
Then again, there isn't really a certain color, anything she decides will be fine, remember, everyone will have their eye on you!!
Congrats and have a wonderful wedding day!
