Many variations of this recipe exist, but this version has been a favorite in Alexandria Bay, NY (the Heart of The Thousand Islands) for nearly 50 years
INGREDIENTS
3 eggs
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 pinch ground cloves
1 quart mayonnaise
3/4 cup sweet pickle relish
1/2 cup chopped black olives
1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
DIRECTIONS
Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, peel and chop.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the chopped eggs, Worcestershire sauce, sugar, vinegar, cloves, mayonnaise, relish, olives and red pepper until evenly blended. Chill and serve spooned over fresh greens. Store in the refrigerator.

Homemade Thousand Island Dressing
Makes 2 cups
Ingredients
1-1/2 cups mayonnaise or salad dressing
1/4 cup chili sauce
1 hard-cooked egg, chopped
1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon pickle relish
Directions
1. In a mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients.
2. Cover and refrigerate. Serve as a dressing over greens and other fresh vegetables or serve as a dipper. Makes 2 cups.
Make-Ahead Tip: Prepare as directed. Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.

It is called Thousand Island due to the chopped eggs and other bits floating in the dressing.
Olive oil about quarter cup with 1 teaspoon good paprika in the oil
2/3 cup ketchup
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons dill relish or sweet relish (up to you)
can put 1 teaspoon or more capers
2 tables spoons chopped egg
2 tablespoons chopped olives usually green stuffed are used.
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon finely chopped green onions.
Mix it all let it sit for about 2 to 4 hours or more. Taste if you like you can put some hot sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper whatever to your taste.

CHOPPED ROMAINE SALAD WITH THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING
This tangy homemade dressing keeps a few days when chilled, and is also great for turkey sandwiches, coleslaw and deviled eggs.
1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
1/3 cup bottled chili sauce
1/4 cup chopped drained pimiento
1 large hard-boiled egg, shelled, finely chopped
3 tablespoons finely chopped dill pickle
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons drained capers
2 tablespoons chopped green onion
Hot pepper sauce
2 medium heads romaine lettuce, coarsely chopped (about 16 cups)
Combine first 8 ingredients in medium bowl and whisk to blend. Season dressing to taste with hot pepper sauce, salt and pepper. (Can be prepared 3 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)
Place lettuce in large bowl. Toss with enough dressing to coat.
Makes 8 servings.
